Im Jahr 2036 entdeckt der Astronaut Perry Rhodan auf dem Mond ein außerirdisches Raumschiff. Damit erschließt er der Menschheit den Weg zu den Sternen. In den Weiten der Milchstraße treffen die Menschen auf Gegner und Freunde; es folgen Fortschritte und Rückschläge. Nach 2051 wird die Erde unbewohnbar, während Milliarden Menschen zu einem unbekannten Ort transportiert werden. 2055 reist Rhodan mit dem riesigen Fernraumschiff MAGELLAN in die Galaxis Andromeda, findet dort aber keine Spur zur vermissten Erdbevölkerung. Er kehrt in die Milchstraße zurück - doch die Passage schlägt fehl.
Die MAGELLAN strandet in der sogenannten Eastside. Die Besatzung begegnet den fremdartigen Blues und knüpft nach anfänglichen Konflikten erste Freundschaften. Auf einem Mond des riesigen Planeten Moloch entdeckt Perry Rhodan überraschend die Weltraumarche, in der die verschollenen elf Milliarden Menschen im Tiefschlaf ruhen. Um sie zu bergen, entsendet er eine Expedition in DIE KAVERNEN VON IMPOS...
