A terrific Sequel!

I received a free copy to give my honest opinion, I will try to minimize spoilers. Our two authors didn't disappoint with this great sequel. With plot twists and turns galore, and making them work for the story, they neither feel awkward nor forced. For example; In the previous book out hero does what he can to avoid his becoming his Dark future self, now he must embrace the ways that might lead to his Dark future self in order to survive. I'll leave it there so that you may enjoy the story yourself. Enjoy!

Time Travel, Paradoxes, and More!

I recently had the pleasure of diving into Destiny’s Paradox, the second installment in the Dark Destiny series by C.T. Phipps and Frank Martin, narrated by Gary Noon. Let me tell you, this book was a wild ride from start to finish!

As someone who’s listened to their fair share of audiobooks, I was pleasantly surprised by how Phipps and Martin managed to maintain the momentum of the first book and crank it up a notch in this one. The pacing was spot-on, keeping me engaged and eager to see what would happen next. I kept thinking “oh they’re not going to go that… oh, well I guess they are” and I think I exclaimed “no!” a few times out loud to myself.

One aspect I particularly enjoyed was the exploration of paradoxes, with nods to classics like “Back to the Future 2.” (I mean is it a Phipps book without SOME pop culture references?) It added an extra layer of complexity to the story that kept me hooked. The “who is the bad guy” narrative was also brilliantly executed, keeping me guessing until the very end.

Speaking of the end, it left me eagerly anticipating the third and final book in the series. Phipps and Martin have crafted a time-traveler’s dream, filled with twists and turns that will keep you on your toes. If you’re looking for a thrilling read that will keep you guessing, Destiny’s Paradox is a must-listen.

The narration by Gary Noon was perfect for this. His performance, pacing, and overall “feeling” he was able to add as Rob and the other characters were perfect.

This is a great 2nd book int he series and I can't

This is a great continuation of the original story. You wouldn't necessarily be lost if you started with this book, but you would miss out on a lot of the backstory and origins of many characters.

CT Phipps is an entertaining author, who dives headfirst into whatever genre he finds himself in. Very true to form, using archetypes and tropes not as a crutch, but as a familiar hook to grab you and throw you into the story.

This book, and the first one, are the only works I've read by Frank Martin so I don't know what he brings to the table, but I can say that this series is one of the more mature examples of writing out of the Phipps camp. Which is a little ironic, considering that most of the characters are YA.

If you like speculative fiction with a heavy lean on sci-fi, time travel, cybertech, and espionage... that doesn't take itself too seriously, this could be a great book (and series) for you.

I read the audiobook version narrated by Gary Noon, who does a great job with pacing, differentiating voices, and emotion.

The unexpected surprise

"Destiny's Paradox" by C.T. Phipps, the engaging sequel to "Dark Destiny," wonderfully exceeds expectations. Where the first book hinted at predictability, this installment is a delightful surprise, weaving in twists and turns that truly enhance the narrative. It's impressive how the story evolves from its solid beginnings to an even more captivating level. I'm very excited about the next book and can't wait to see where this intriguing series takes us next.
