Nachdem sie erst vor wenigen Wochen einen Mordfall gelöst hat, beginnt Lacey - nicht zuletzt wegen ihres neuen besten Freundes in Gestalt eines Englischen Schäferhundes sowie ihrer aufkeimenden Beziehung zu dem netten Koch und Konditor aus dem Laden gegenüber – sich so richtig wohl in ihrer neuen Heimatstadt zu fühlen. Und dass sie nun ihre erste richtige Auktion veranstalten kann und dabei auch ein besonders wertvolles, wenn auch mysteriöses Stück unter den Hammer bekommen soll, erfüllt sie erst recht mit freudiger Aufregung.
Zunächst scheint alles problemlos über die Bühne zu gehen, allerdings nur so lange bis zwei mysteriöse Bieter auftauchen, die beide aus Wilfordshire kommen – und von denen einer bei seinem Auftauchen tot ist.
Natürlich stürzen diese Ereignisse das Städtchen in ein schlimmes Chaos und bringen Laceys endlich wieder florierendes Geschäft einmal mehr an den Rand seiner Existenz. Nun stellt sich die Frage, ob es Lacey und ihrem Partner mit der kalten Schnauze gelingen wird, auch dieses Verbrechen aufzuklären und damit ihren guten Ruf zu retten.
