Cole + Petkoff = Genius!

Not my favorite but still good! I completed the whole series when it was on sale and have enjoyed every spoken word! You will never tire of these characters and the narrator! I hope it never ends...I will be sad.

Still going strong!

10 books into the Immortals After Dark series and the team of Cole and Petkoff is still knocking it out of the park!

The Writing:

Kresley Cole is paranormal romance at its finest. I don’t how she does it but she kinds the laughs and sexy times coming with each installment in the IAD series. She writes extremely entertaining characters and paints a vivid world surrounding her supes.

The Narration Performance:

I can’t call Robert Petkoff a narrator no longer, he doesn’t read a book he PERFORMS them. The man can do no wrong! He is the cherry on top of Cole’s writing. Seriously, if you think of audio books as experiencing the biggest epic/action movie in 3D then you not only get an outstanding story told through Cole’s writing but you get the added layers in-depth and texture of her characters through Petkoff’s performance. I couldn’t image anyone else bring this series to life the way he does. It’s magic to my ears! EVERY TIME!

The Story & Character:

Malkolm is a vemon (I know you’re thinking WTH is a venom), a demon that has been turned into a vampire. Malkolm was forced into the turning by his enemy many, many years ago. He hates vampires due to his childhood as a blood slave to a vampire his mother sold him to. (Great childhood, right? Mother of the year award goes to…)

So Malkolm has characteristics from both his demon and vampire sides. He also lives alone because no one likes or wants a vemon around.

Carrow is a witch and has been kidnapped and blackmailed into bring Malkolm back to her enemies. She thinks the task will be easy and agrees to do it because hey, she has no choice. But once she meets Malkolm she realizes that her task of bring him back won’t be as easy as she thought.

And of course Cole adds in the fact that Carrow is Malkolm’s mate. Things start to heat up between the two and they develop feelings for each other (duh, it’s a romance of course they do). But Carrow holds back because she has HUGE guilt over lying to Malkolm about why she is there in his realm. Especially since she has learned of his past and how everyone that he had loved betrayed him in some way.


Demon from the Dark is easily one of my favorites in the series. Malkolm grabs your heart and doesn’t let go and Carrow is the perfect mate for him. If you like your heroes on the strong and silent side with a heart of gold underneath you should pick Demon from the Dark. It could be read without reading the other books in the series but I highly recommend starting with the first book, A Hunger Like No Other or even the novella that started it all, The Warlord Wants Forever. The IAD series has characters and plotlines that overlap one another and it’s much better to experience this world in the layers that each book brings. And if you are an audio fan do this series on audio!! If you’re looking to give audios a try start with this series. It a faultless example of what a great narrator can do for an already awesome book(s).

wonderful fantasy romance

A great example of Kresley Cole's storytelling ability. I can't wait to see what Nixie cooks up next. So many options for new story lines with all the characters "reunited" by the Order.

Great story, excellent narration!

Overall it was good. I really liked the Heroine up until right before they returned. Her thought process portrayed her as selfish and beyond stupid. Willing to betray someone so badly and being stupid enough to believe they'd actually keep their word. It was maddening.

I read reviews bashing this book for glorifying rape and thought it'd be like "a hunger like no other" in which there were true rape scenes ...it wasn't anything like that.

Books that glorify rape and abuse enrgage me to no end. This certainly wasn't one of them.

Another solid read in the series

Robert Petkoff nails the narration again. He makes the stories better to listen to then read...though i do both :) and that's saying a lot. Carrow is super funny and sassy and a little trashy. Worth the credit.

Malcolm….that is all

I don’t know what it is exactly, the story, the spice, the conflict, or the man but I’m stuck stuck stuck.
Carrow and Malcom are full of feelings, and bad pasts but they come together so well❤️

*** FYI, The book description is a bit misleading and I'm going to correct that in my review. This may make my review a bit spoilerish so be forewarned. ***

This was a great story. TBH, I vacillated between 4 and 5 stars for the rating but I loved both Carrow and Malkom and their story was really enjoyable so I decided it was worth rounding up to 5 stars overall.

Carrow is a witch who has gifts in 3 casts. She was raised by parents that were rich but had little affection (or attention) for their daughter. She grew up feeling there was something wrong with her that her parents couldn't even love her. Carrow gains power for her witchcraft from joy and good feelings so she's always been a bit of a wild thing, partying and living the good life since she had no one relying on her.

Malkom was born a demon and had a really horrible childhood. He found a friend that made his life better when he got older and he made something of himself. Unfortunately, life wasn't kind and he got pushed into in a bad situation and betrayed by his friend...ending up responsible for his death. Malkom ended up living in a barren wasteland, feeling he was betrayed by anyone that's ever meant anything to him and living only for revenge.

Carrow is taken captive one day and finds herself in a prison with many other Lore creatures, both good and evil. The Lore creatures are all kept from using their special abilities by collars that somehow restrict them. Carrow soon finds out that the facility is run by humans that have found out about the Lore and are very paranoid. They believe the creatures of the Lore are planning to take over the world and kill all the humans so they are capturing different type of the Lore in order to study them for weaknesses. Carrow is captive for a while when she's given an ultimatum by some of the humans running the place. They've also taken a young witch captive, Ruby, that's a cousin to Carrow. Ruby's mother was killed during the fight to take them captive and as her closest relation, Carrow is now responsible (according to the witch's laws) for her. The humans tell Carrow that she must go to another plane to get a demon that's been turned vampire (Malkom) and bring him back so they can study him. Carrow isn't pleased about this but agrees as long as the leader swears that her and Ruby will be let go after she returns with Malkom.

Carrow gets to the other plane but soon finds she's not well equipped for her mission. She feeds off of joy and happiness for her magic and that's not something that there's a lot of on that plane so she can't fight off the many dangers there. Thankfully, Malkom finds her pretty quickly and they're both surprised to find that she's his Bride/Demon's "one". Malkom knew English centuries ago but it was spoken by the vampires that kept him captive so he has shut out those memories. Now he only speaks demonish and Carrow doesn't know demonish. This makes their communication difficult at best and they spend the next week getting to know each other as Malkom tries to win her affections. She gets him to agree to come home with her early on but while waiting for the time that the return portal will be opened, she gets to know him and the more she knows him the less she wants to betray his trust. Unfortunately, Ruby is counting on her so Carrow feels she has little choice. Considering Malkom's background and past betrayals, he doesn't take things well when he realizes Carrow's part in his capture when they get through the portal. He is determined to make her pay and when the crap hit the fan and the Lore creatures are able to escape the facility, he goes after her. There's much danger to get through and some very painful drama to get past as they try to come to terms with each other. Fortunately, with some time and effort, Carrow and Malkom do get back together and end the story starting a HEA together.

I really enjoyed this story, regardless of the painful issues that the couple had to get past to find happiness together. I loved Carrow and Malkom together and hated seeing them at odds. The story was great and I was very happy with the way Carrow and Malkom worked things out and got their happy ending. Overall, this was a great story, I'd recommend it (and the series). :D

I️ like that both characters learn to trust after many years hiding the fact that both had been betrayed.
I️ like Malkon’s honor and Carrow’s spunk. Great storyline.

one of my favorite of the series so far

Among my top favorites of the series. My heart cheered for Malcolm and Carrow, while breaking for them at the same time.

The narrator of these books is incredible. Perfect accents that he keeps consistent from book to book. He gives then even more personality.

The story is great. Very X-rated at times, but the stories are honestly well written and interesting and captivating. It's not a series for the prudish, but it's truly not smut either. Love it!
