An Unexpected Search and Rescue . . .

When Ridge Ledger’s SAR and avalanche dog discovers an injured woman, Ridge is surprised that she’s the woman who broke his heart two months ago---in California. Not Alaska. He doesn’t know why she’s not still in the Lower 48, and he’s caught off guard when she attacks him as if fighting for her life. He’s shocked to learn the woman he loved has forgotten him.

Uncovers a Hidden Threat.

Angie Harris—is that even her name? —can’t recall who she is. She doesn’t know whom to trust, except for the man who rescued her from a cold dark cave and a grizzly bear. But she can’t forget the face of the one who tried to kill her. Remembering the reason that she came to Alaska is vital to her survival, and as it turns out, Ridge’s survival too.

Avalanche Specialist Ridge Ledger is out on a mountain with his search and rescue dog Thunder when he finds an injured woman buried in the snow. Surprised that she is still alive, Ridge takes a good look at her and is shocked to see that it is his old girlfriend. What is Angie doing out here? When she wakes up in the hospital, Angie has no memory of who she is or why she is in the hospital. She knows Ridge as the man who rescued her; but has no idea that they used to mean something to each other. What she does remember is a man trying to kill her when she fell off a cliff into a snowdrift. Angie knows she must remember exactly what happened before the man finds her to finish her off.

Elizabeth Goddard is the "Author of the Month" in one of my Goodreads groups. I chose this story because it was short, and I wanted to read something set in Alaska since I am headed there at the end of the week. I made a big mistake when I downloaded it from Audible. I didn't check to see who was narrating the story. Turns out this book is narrated by Virtual Voice. I thought I'd give it a try. I really should have just found something else to listen to. The descriptions of the scenery wasn't bad; but the dialogue delivery was laughable. It threw me right out of the story over and over again. The scene and chapter breaks are abrupt. In one sentence Angie is talking to Ridge. In the next sentence he is having dinner with friends. How did that happen?

From the many reviews I read, this is probably a good story. Of course, I saw no signs that those reviewers had listened to the audiobook narrated by Virtual Voice. My rating is based solely on the narration and it was AWFUL. Stay far away from Virtual Voice and read the actual book instead. My rating: 1 Star.
