Stephen A. Smith has never been handed anything, nor was he an overnight success. Growing up poor in Queens, the son of Caribbean immigrants and the youngest of six children, he was a sports-obsessed kid who faced struggles, from undiagnosed dyslexia to getting enough cereal to fill his bowl. As a basketball player at Winston-Salem State University, he got a glimmer of his true calling when he wrote a newspaper column arguing for the retirement of his own Hall of Fame coach, Clarence Gaines.

Good story
The story was good, however I think the choice of words made no sense. This is Lamar Odams biography, told by him , therefore it should've sounded like him. The narrator was dry. Again the person narrating needed to be more street in certain parts.

Ok. Just ok.
Not a lot that you haven’t already heard/seen in the media. I was hoping for more of a true tell all. I also wish it was a few more years down the road so we could see where Lamar is at now, and WHAT he is doing to continue to be in the light instead of the darkness.

Wow
The book itself was very insightful. I liked how descriptive he was in telling various memories of his life. The only negative is the narrator. He was a bit monotone. I always like the the author to read it themselves but at least someone who reads with expression. I was able to overlook the voice and enjoy the book nonetheless.
