Acerca de esta escucha
If you access the web from a smartphone, tablet, or computer, this audiobook will add to your knowledge about social network risks, online trust and privacy, content oversharing, and smartphone addiction. Written in plain English (not geek-speak), Cyber Crisis also offers easy-to-follow steps you can take to improve your personal cyber security. You will learn at least one new thing you can do that will lower your risk of being hacked or harmed online.
When online, you, your friends, children, parents, co-workers, and social acquaintances are always just one click away from a stalker, predator, thief, troll, catfish, or another social media sewer dweller. Listening to Cyber Crisis represents a warning shot for those of you predisposed to trust your fellow man in the real world and, without thinking, carry that bias into cyberspace. After listening to Cyber Crisis, my hope is that you will be motivated you to accept a higher level of personal responsibility for your digital well-being.

Centralization has made it easier for governments to standardize and regulate industries, and for media and technology companies to create and grow their own ecosystems. But the trouble with such centralized networks is that they are also susceptible to censorship, control, and a loss of freedom, as we’ve seen to our cost in the past few years. Combining decentralization and encryption through the Bitcoin standard and Lightning Network offers the return of the personal liberty that centralized banking, government, and social media entities have started to strip away.

Technological advances have benefited our world in immeasurable ways, but there is an ominous flip side: our technology can be turned against us. Hackers can activate baby monitors to spy on families, thieves are analyzing social media posts to plot home invasions, and stalkers are exploiting the GPS on smart phones to track their victims’ every move. We all know today’s criminals can steal identities, drain online bank accounts, and wipe out computer servers, but that’s just the beginning.

Anybody on the internet needs this
If you could sum up Cyber Crisis in three words, what would they be?
Frightening, pertinent, timely
What did you like best about this story?
It is a fascinating view into the inner workings of cyber crime and I learned so much! Some of it I already knew, but much was new and interesting to me. I really enjoyed learning the differences between the visible, dark, and deep web and was horrified to learn of some of the ways cyber criminals exploit us. My company was affected by the recent cyberattacks and listening to this audiobook could not have been more timely!
What does Pamela Almand bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The narrator has intensity needed for this but still with a smooth voice that is reassuring and informative. It sounds like she knows what she is talking about and it really makes you listen.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It scared me to realize how vulnerable we all are.

Cyber attacks are here!!!!!!!!!!
What made the experience of listening to Cyber Crisis the most enjoyable?
This is really a book that all should hear in this current time. Told me so much about the deep web and dark web and stuff I heard about but didn't know about. Gave good information to help protect yourself and your family.
Who was your favorite character and why?
This was a non-fiction book so there were not any characters, but the urgency of the voice and the subject were really right on point. Miss Almand gave this the right sense of importance and weight but kept it moving along. She also has a nice voice to listen to that kept my interest.
Which scene was your favorite?
Information about the layers of the web inaccessible to most of us.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Scared me, yes, moved, not applicable
Any additional comments?
Kids should be required to listen to this along with their parents. After the cyberattacks recently this is just right on point and sure helps understand this stuff better and makes you aware of what you need to do to protect yourself. This makes you realize just how vulnerable everybody is!

A little basic but still good information
Would you listen to Cyber Crisis again? Why?
Yes. I'd like to read a follow on now that most of the cyber hacking has come true and everybody is experiencing it. This is a big deal and there should be more written for everyday people about this.
What does Pamela Almand bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She has a strong voice and you pay attention but it is still pretty easy to listen to. It sounds like she's into this stuff and knows what she's talking about..
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It is a wakeup call not that we should need it still. The whole country is so exposed to cyber hacking and crime and I wish this book concentrated more on the bigger aspects of it instead of the individual's problems and fears, but for the level it was talking to it was pretty good.

a warning about how we act online
We have been naïve too long. It is time to face the fact that our data is under attack, our personal info is for sale and our identities are being hacked. We have treated the online world like the real one, and it is not working for us. We are too trusting and too open to strangers, many who are out to steal from us and others who are not human at all, but mindless robots trolling our data.
Cyber Crisis is less a how-to book than a warning about how we act online. It asks us to rethink how we present ourselves on the Internet. In person, we can judge who we meet by instinct and long learned clues about who we trust. On the Internet, we have few of these opportunities, instead often trusting strangers by a single photograph. We open ourselves to all kinds of personal and financial risks.
And the risks are great. We are all aware of identity theft and its headaches, but the consequences of poor choices can have far greater reaches. Employers regularly check prospective employees online. Our very livelihoods can be harmed by one poorly posted photo. Mr Keiper is asking online users to think before they post, question before we trust and look before we leap.
Pamela Almand reads this short book well. She has a credible tone as she describes the many technical issues involved. Her voice is easy and pleasant to listen too.
Cyber Crisis presents its case well, with many new ideas for novice and expert alike. Philosophical issues about our Internet addiction and online gambling are addressed in fresh ways. The new technologies of infinite connectivity contrast sharply with the slow evolution of human face to face relationships. It will be some time before we catch up; we’d better take some basic steps to protect ourselves in the meantime.

Real world tactics don't work anymore
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. Everybody needs to listen to this in this cyber-vulnerable world. Keiper give you understandable details on how each click of your mouse on social media or shopping sites and ads can get you in trouble fast. He explains about the different layers of the web and what they mean to us as addicts of all things cyber. It is a book that is necessary and even though it is a slightly scary read, it makes you aware of what you are inadvertnetly doing that makes you a target for the bad guys.
Which scene was your favorite?
I liked learning about the dark web. I heard the term before but didn't really know what it meant and how it worked basically making the users invisible to do whatever they want without consequences.
Any additional comments?
This is short book to listen to and I even enjoyed the glossary as read by the narrator since I knew a lot of the terms but not all. The narrator made this serious book interesting and compelling without the monotonous voice many non-fiction audiobook tend to have. I could probably listen to this woman read math equations!
