Acerca de esta escucha

Adalheid Castle is in chaos.

Following a shocking turn of events, Serilda finds herself ensnared in a deadly game of make-believe with the Erlking, who is determined to propel her deeper into the castle’s lies. Meanwhile, Serilda is determined to work with Gild to help him solve the mystery of his forgotten name and past.

But soon it becomes clear that the Erlking doesn’t only want to use Serilda to bring back his one true love. He also seeks vengeance against the seven gods who have long trapped the Dark Ones behind the veil. If the Erlking succeeds, it could change the mortal realm forever.

Can Serilda find a way to use her storytelling gifts for good, once and for all? And can Serilda and Gild break the spells that tether their spirits to the castle before the Endless Moon finds them truly cursed?

Romance and adventure collide in this stunning finale to the Rumpelstilskin inspired fairy tale.

Lovely adventure

A bit long winded at times but a heartfelt story and lovable characters. Narrated perfectly

Easily my favorite series by Marissa Meyer

Still very fun and atmospheric, but not as fun as the first one, because there was a lot of Serilda moaning "Noooooooo" left and right, even though she knew that it wouldn't do anything. And she made more stupid decisions at crucial times than in the first one, which wasn't fun to follow. Also, I felt the ending was quite lame. If you're making a tragedy happen, then let it be a tragedy, imo at least. Don't chicken out and retcon the storyline choices you made. And our protagonists weren't the ones to solve the mystery. Additionally, there was no chance of us readers solving the mystery of Gild's true name. It was obvious what his surname is, considering which retelling this is, but not his actual name, which made for a lame resolution, having a random character solve the mystery.

On the positive note, I really liked the new addition to our cast of characters and at one point in the book, it seemed like we would have a synergy of different skills, like the author pulled off in Winter, which I was delighted by. It didn't fully pan out like I hoped, but it was still fun. I still very much enjoyed Gild and the fact that his main talent was something that was generally considered feminine, and that it was completely normal. I also like that we got even more diversity, with 2 LGBTQA+ couples. And I still love the idea that the deities are non-binary and/or gender fluid depending on what they wanted in a moment.

Some treads/mysteries stay unsolved, which I do wanted to get solved, but oh well.

Still, I was very pleasantly surprised by this duology, and I think that it's easily Marissa Meyer's best work yet. Or at least it's easily my favorite of her stories and I think it's underrated.

Regarding the narration, my thoughts from the first one still stand. Rebecca Soler is great in this role, although I still did have to slow down the narration to properly and easily follow the story.
