A great book!

If you loved Bob Crane, then you'll love this book. The first several chapters are about Bob's early life and then his move to CA. His early career and family life are discussed and was enjoyable to learn about. The author, Bob Crane Jr., then goes into his own life which takes up most of the book. He references snippets of his dad in these chapters. Now then, of you are a John Candy fan, you'll further love this book as John Candys life and career are heavily covered in this book as Crane Jr worked for Candy. So it's like getting two books in one. And then at the end of the book, the last chapter or two finish up more with Bob Crane Sr and the trial outcome. The whole book ties together rather nicely and at first I was kind of thinking, I don't want to know this much about Bob Cranes son but it was actually very interesting and I found myself totally involved.

I highly recommend this book. Just go into it knowing what I said about the majority of it.

This was a little more of a personal story for me. My mother and Bob Crane were cousins.

Who killed Bob Crane?

The former star of the popular sitcom "Hogan's Heroes" was murdered two weeks before his 50th birthday in 1978. Despite an arrest and trial, the case has remained unsolved. However, Crane's son Robert shares the evidence collected in the case and offers his conclusion on the man he holds responsible for his father's death. Crane died seven years after "Hogan Heroes" was cancelled, but the show lives on syndication.

Robert Crane recalls the day he learned of his father's murder, and examining his father's living quarters riddled with anomalies. The police investigation was sloppy, and the murder scene was compromised, and evidence was contaminated. Crane's friend, John Henry Carpenter, was finally arrested in 1992, but maintained his innocence and would be acquitted of the murder. According to one theory, Crane was killed when he wanted to end his association with Carpenter. Another theory has Crane being murdered due his lifestyle, as the former radio disc jockey and actor had become a sex addict.

In the book, the younger Crane outlines his father's career path from a popular radio DJ to starring in a hit sitcom. However, Crane struggled professionally after the cancellation of "Hogan's Heroes." In the meantime, Crane would pick up woman and videotape his sexual activities. Despite this addiction, Crane was a loving and supportive father. Robert Crane become a freelance writer, and eventually the publicist for comedian John Candy.

Crane reveals what object was likely the murder weapon, and offers reasons why he believes Carpenter was acquitted, exploring who benefited financially from Bob's death. I found this audiobook interesting, and did enjoy it!

Very sad life story

If you want to get depressed and appalled at same time, this is the book for you. Some people are addicted to drugs, or alcohol or shopping etc, but Crane Sr was addicted to perverted, s&m sex. You wonder why? And who killed the guy, but you can figure it out. Felt sorry for the writer, his son because he had to face all the sickness of his dad and try to not be sucked in. It’s interesting but a hard read.
