HE’S THE RICH BOY

Young love — that was what Nadine and Hayden had. The kind of love that captures the soul and never dies. That is, until Hayden’s father swindled Nadine’s family, and they didn’t see each other for thirteen years. When his father suddenly dies, Hayden returns home to the family’s lakeside mansion — and to his first love. But Nadine and her two young sons aren’t quite ready to trust again. Soon Hayden is left trying to work through mistrust and misinformation to gain the love of the girl no amount of money could make him forget….

HE’S MY SOLDIER BOY

Dark, sexy and dangerous, young Ben Powell could steal kisses as deep and stormy as Whitefire Lake. But when he cruelly accused Carlie Surrett of unthinkable sins, he left her in the dust of her shattered dreams. Now, steelier than ever after his stint in the army, Ben is back — making Carlie curse the love that all but destroyed her…and the volcanic passion that still sears her soul.

What did you like best about Confessions? What did you like least?

Confessions was a nice light story to listen to while doing chores. It's a little dated (no reference to cell phones, everyone has oldfashioned answering machines). There's also some discontinuity between the stories - at least as far as I can remember. In the second story, between Ben and Carly, Kevin's son is featured. However, in the first story, between Hayden and Nadine, there is no mention of Kevin having a son.

Would you be willing to try another book from Lisa Jackson? Why or why not?

Maybe. The stories didn't suck me in. It was a decent story, not bad, just not terribly gripping.

What three words best describe Kate Rudd’s voice?

Stilted, Jennifer Grey. Kate Rudd has a tendency to read word's very formally, without rounding off Ts and Ds, for example. I'd compare it to a square wheel rolling. When she is reading any emotion, I keep hearing Jennifer Grey's Baby (Dirty Dancing) character begging Johnny or her father. Most of the time, these two items weren't distracting but then her pronunciation or inflection would pull me out of the story.

Hmmm

This was a good, light read. I would have loved to have seen a little more depth in the characters, but it was a fun, light way to pass the time.

Good but missing depth

not a usual lisa Jackson -totally dragged and sounds like a brand spanking new writer!

Waste of listening time!

Is there anything you would change about this book?

It's dated and cheesy, which is to be expected from this early work. I love this author's later titles.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Updated it.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Her voice was very high and she had this weird habit of breathing in a way that made the female protagonists sound like they were constantly out of breath. It was very distracting. Also her rhythm was off. She seemed to pause in places that weren't appropriate, i.e. in the middle of paragraphs. Her high voice made her sound like a little kid and made the women sound whinny.

Do you think Confessions needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No

Any additional comments?

This was an obvious repackaging of some older titles. No attempt was made to update the book, and it shows. I wouldn't waste a credit on this title.

Cheesy stories with a poor narrator
