A good account of company, life in the war
This is one of the best down and dirty accounts of one company commanders experiences slogging through Europe after D-Day. It has all the action, heartbreak and the exhilaration associated with war and the triumph of the human spirit.

Not your normal war book.
This was written from a perspective that you don't normally get. The author isn't afraid to tell about his lack of confidence, and how it affected his actions. It kept me awake during a long cross country trip.

This is a very moving record of two infantry companies during the last year of the war in Europe.

Many details I hadn't heard before.
Infantry combat on the personal level, terror and triumph. This was a combat leader who created about his and tried to protect them as best he could. Gritty.

Good from start to finish!
I really enjoyed the story. The reader was one of the better ones! I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants an insight into what it’s like being an average soldier in World War II

First hand battle command
The book is an excellent example of first person battlefield command.
The editing of the performance is a little bit frustrating however.
