All I can say is wow, what a book.

This such an outstanding book, maybe my favorite thus far. Simply because I knew absolutely nothing about this civilization. Never heard of them & if I had I must have forgotten. I loved this book because everything was new so I acquired new knowledge of a subject.

It is loving history.

It is well written history of the “Zapotec civilization”. I enjoyed listening to it, and learned quite a bit from it.

New published material.

Archaeologists are still learning artifacts & trying to piece together a new understanding of these people. As always much of what we know is from the biased account of the Spanish conquistadors. With new information still being found in discoveries of this civilization new published materials will help give the Zapotecs a place in history that its deserves.

This was a great intro, quick.

I didn’t know much about the Zapotec Civilization, this was a great intro. Quick read. To me, it was very repetitious, circular and could have described any of the per-Columbian cultures.

A great book about the Zapotec Civilization.

I didn’t hear about this civilization before now. I found this book to be captivating. There are other more well-known Mesoamerican civilizations such as the Maya, Aztecs, and Incas but it seems as though the Zapotecs were more advanced than other civilizations of the time. Definitely, take the time to read about "The Cloud People."

Interesting Civilization.

A well written story of a group of people who disappeared shortly after the Conquistadores arrived. They were studied and remarked on for their abilities in writing and use of calendars as well as water control for their use. Very little is known about what happened to this large civilization.

Excellent read for a civilization history lovers.

I've enjoyed a number of these books and they continue to be good reads. Informative and I've learned new things. Am always looking for the next one!

Dark and interesting I didn't know of this.

The Zapotecs lived and flourished, and became a civilization of interest to the Conquistadors. As one of the largest Mesoamerican civilizations at the time, they helped to shape and form the world the Conquistadors come across upon their arrival. Rivaling the size and difficulty of their Mayan neighbors, the Zapotec were innovators and intellectuals who created a society that was markedly similar to the kingdoms and social structures.
