Acerca de esta escucha

Did you know amputated foreskins are sold to cosmetic companies for $100,000? Or that circumcision was alleged to cure brain tumors? It also has a history of megalomania; doctors believed it would cure Black men of their predisposition to be rapists, and the more children they circumcised, the higher they'd ascend to god.

Most parents circumcise their sons without giving it a second thought. They have no clue what the risks are because doctors never offer informed consent - the legal obligation to educate patients on the risks and alleged benefits of any medical procedure. Circumcision facts doctors never tell parents:

  • Circumcision can permanently change your son's temperament
  • Circumcision reduces penis sensitivity and causes erectile dysfunction
  • Circumcision can result in amputation, disfigurement, or death
  • Your newborn son will be given an erection to facilitate the procedure
  • Circumcision has no genuine health benefits
  • America has one of the highest HIV rates in the world despite circumcision

Circumcision Scar is one of the most controversial books ever written. After suffering a trauma at age one, Jay experienced parallel memories that revealed he'd been in two separate hospital settings as an infant, and his distress over these conflicting memories caused his lifelong struggle. As an adult, Jay sought treatment for erectile dysfunction, only to be chased out of multiple doctors' offices, doctors who branded him immoral for suggesting circumcision is harmful. He ultimately endured two experimental surgeries to reverse the damage his circumcision caused.

In his 50s, Jay realized his recurring nightmares were repressed memories of his neonatal circumcision, which became the impetus for this book. Jay passionately details his experiences with circumcision sexual trauma and exposes the shocking history behind how it became common in America. Listen to this blistering exposé into history's most loathed body part. Narrated by Jay Jackson Feldman, a.k.a. Jay J. Jackson.

Had Potential but Retraumatizing and Disorganized

I initially didn’t want to leave this review because in all fairness the author started the book multiple times staring this is an account of their story; however, the disclaimer was also buried in long diatribes. My review is to serve as a disclaimer to anyone dealing with trauma. The author is using the written (or spoken) word to work through (or with) trauma which they have not already come to a better understanding about. The author is dealing with feelings of shame, vulnerability, blame, guilt, anger, contempt and it’s hard to tell if they’ve forgiven themselves. Again, in all fairness the author says the are writing the books as a catharsis and they don’t care what others (including their husband who they’ve hidden it from) think. The book is also very disorganized and revisiting the same topics to go on rants while missing key moments to reflect and tell a story. To anyone listening looking for information, this books is not meant to be information. To anyone looking for clarity, you’ll only find confusion. To anyone looking for healing, you may find a headache and a feeling like you’re apart of the problem.
