Chinese (Mandarin) Level 3 Lessons 1-5 builds on material taught in prior units. Each lesson provides 30 minutes of spoken language practice, with an introductory conversation and new vocabulary and structures. Detailed instructions enable you to understand and participate in the conversation. Each lesson contains practice for vocabulary introduced in previous lessons. The emphasis is on pronunciation and comprehension and on learning to speak Mandarin Chinese.

Formal for No Reason

I really liked the words taught in these lessons, but using the formal version of "you" the whole time when it is not needed makes learning new words a bit more challenging. In Mandarin you don't use certain words for no reason. There has to be a reason to be formal or you sound strange. Another thing I am not a fan of and have noticed through all the Pimsleur courses is they like to teach to 4-5 new words RIGHT at the end of the last lesson. It's a sneaky tactic to get people to spend more money. There is no need for it. If people are trying to learn a language and enjoy your lessons they will keep buying them. I really do like the Pimsleur method of learning, but I am liking the lessons less and less over time because of these repeated issues.
