Tjerk Boomsma, leider van de reddingsbrigade, ex-commando en eigenaar van Pension Westerveld, is degene bij wie iedereen op het eiland aanklopt als er iets aan de hand is. Nu burgemeester De Lange weg is en er nog geen nieuwe burgemeester is aangesteld, geldt dat des te meer. Ook de vriendengroep die samen strandtent Grote Vis runt kan op zijn onvoorwaardelijke steun rekenen: bij alle perikelen rondom Wende en Axel, Cam en Mayke, Vincent en Milena en alle andere oude bekenden uit de Eilandliefde-serie weet Tjerk wel raad.
De stoere, koppige Tjerk is van nature een einzelgänger, maar door alles wat er speelt op het eiland, en door de komst van een nieuwe burgemeester – een stevig type, zowel bestuurlijk als fysiek – kan hij zich niet afzijdig houden. Botsingen zijn onvermijdelijk. En toch: gaandeweg groeit er in hem een voorzichtig vlammetje voor iemand bij wie hij dat absoluut niet had verwacht. Is de liefde dan toch nog voor hem weggelegd?
