Oh, and not forgetting that she listens from behind the stacks to what is the lifeblood of any small town - gossip.
Did someone want the mayor dead? And could that be why a local councilor is overheard plotting to be the next incumbent? Wendy Cartmell is well known for her best-selling Sgt Major Crane Mysteries and more recently her DI Jo Wolfe supernatural crime thrillers. She'd always had an idea for a cozy mystery series bubbling away in the background and the result is this introductory novella to the Muddlebay mysteries.
