The Other Name follows the lives of two men living close to each other on the west coast of Norway. He lives alone, his only friends being his neighbor, Åsleik, a bachelor and traditional Norwegian fisherman-farmer, and Beyer, a gallerist who lives in Bjørgvin, a couple hours drive south of Dylgja, where he lives. There, in Bjørgvin, lives another Asle, also a painter. He and the narrator are doppelgangers—two versions of the same person, two versions of the same life.

Excellent
Jon Fosse is not for everyone but I quite like his work. Kare Conradi did a superb job with this title. In fact, I'd say he does a better job with Fosse than any other narrator I've heard do him. I really wish they would have hired him to do the Septology titles as the narrator they chose for that is dreadful.
Listen to the sample. If you can't imagine listening to 4 and a half hours of that kind or repetition, skip this title, and Fosse altogether. But if that "maximalist minimal" style agrees with you, this is an excellent entry point. Much better than A Shining, imo.
