Acerca de esta escucha
Maeve Sparrow is a normal girl—it’s her life that’s anything but normal. She and her mother never stay anywhere long, she’s been to more schools than she can count, and can pack and be on the road in less than an hour. It’s crazy, maybe, but it’s their life, and for them, it works.
Then, everything changes. A tragedy upends her life and Maeve finds herself living with a long-lost father in a quiet lakeside community in the far north of Michigan.
And that’s when things get…weird.
Have you ever just felt drawn to someone? Compelled to look their way? Caspian is a bright beacon in her strange new life. He’s as far from normal as anyone can be, and somehow, she just can’t seem to stay away from him, or from his equally attractive all-male family.
The more time Maeve spends around Caspian and his family, the more both her suspicions and her body are aroused, and by the time she figures out the truth, it’s far, far too late to return to ignorance and innocence.
The truth is a scary thing, but something in her blood and her body seems to crave them. And once she’s had a taste of Caspian’s world, Maeve is utterly, absolutely certain that she'll never want anything else…
No matter the consequences.

The heroine: Maeve - she is a high school senior and is eighteen years old. Her and her mom live alone together and have always moved around a lot due to her mom’s job constantly relocating her. They have lived mostly in warm places like Florida, Arizona and California. One evening her mom doesn’t come home and the following day an officer comes to her house to tell her that her mom was killed in a car accident. Weeks later a detective named Andreas from Michigan comes and tells her that he is her father. That he had been in love with her mother when she up and left him when she was pregnant with Maeve. Maeve has nothing left and is not ready to live on her own so goes back to Michigan with Andreas.
The Hero: Caspian - He lives in the same town in Michigan and is also a senior in high school. He is secretive and though he is very handsome, the rest of the students tend to give him a wide berth. He and his two brothers Sterling and Finn, live with a sort of guardian named Alastair. Finn owns a local auto shop and Sterling is a T.A. at the local college. Caspian and his brothers wear mirrored sunglasses all the time, saying that their eyes are sensitive to light. He is often fun and flirty in the mornings in the first class he has with Maeve, and his cheeks are pink, though later in the day he tends to get pale and grumpy, often ignoring her.
The Story: Maeve gets to know Caspian and feels drawn to him, and to a lesser extent to his brothers and Alastair. She feels a strange hum in her blood when they are near. Maeve knows something is strange about Caspian and his brothers, but it takes far too long for her to catch on to what it is about them. It becomes obvious, even to a rational person that they aren’t normal, in addition to the fact that she can sense their nearness, when they remove their glasses, their eyes are sometimes completely black with no whites or iris, they can move preternaturally fast, and much more.
Like many of the other reviews I have read, it is hard not to compare this story to Twilight, especially with how the main characters in both books look at all the clues to figure out that they are hanging out with a vampire. Though in Twilight, the clues are a bit more subtle, or able to be explained away, while in this book you are hit in the face with a long list of characteristics which are obviously paranormal, and Maeve seems utterly stupid to take so long to figure it out.
Though there are some big differences between this story and Twilight, especially that Maeve might not be completely human herself. Not only does she feel this hum in her blood when she is near Caspian and his family, but she often has strange dreams about her mother and father and in those dreams, they have pointy ears. Also, there is the mystery of why her mother left her father when she was pregnant and why they moved around so much, it sure seemed like she was trying to hide from someone.
This book had some strange vampire lore, in that the vampires are born, not made, and need to feed, and they do so without killing the “host”. The feeding and sex are often intermingled. Though they never go as far as penetration except when they are trying to create a child. And if they do, and it is a female vampire, she will know right away and will kill the man that impregnated her in a mating frenzy and when male vampires use a mortal woman to get a child, the female will die after giving birth from feeding the baby. And lest I forget, the French revolution was really about immortals trying to be included in society, and the same for the American revolutionary war.
This audiobook was told in Maeve’s point of view via solo narration and was narrated by virtual voice. I was surprised at how good it was. I have listened to audiobooks done in virtual voice before and they usually bother me since you can obviously tell it is being read word for word based on the tempo. This one sounded much more natural than what I have heard before. Of course, I still like dual and duet narration better, but this one wasn’t bad. As the book went on, It did start bothering me a bit because it was one tone of voice for the entire thing, and I often found it hard to distinguish who was speaking at any given time.

Twilight Redone?
I will revise this review if my thoughts on this book change, but I'm currently on Chapter 5. And so far, this is a barely concealed knock off of Twilight. I mean BARELY concealed.
Ok, moving on to see if it gets original at any point.
