Acerca de esta escucha

Blackwater is a collection of two tales of horror and dark fantasy. In "Mercury Rain", a soldier fighting a new enemy learns the importance of holding on to his memories. "Blackwater", the title story of the collection, is an homage to Stephen King's short story, "Graveyard Shift", and it tells the tale of Paul Hawkins, a mine worker who disturbs something terrifying in the Blackwater Hills of Durham, Pennsylvania, in the summer of 1976.

I really enjoyed the second story. It was interesting and I personally would be quite happy if the story would continue to tell what happens to the town and then to the rest of the country. Definite possibility for a full length novel. I received this for free for an honest review.

I love sci fi, and these shorts don’t disappoint. They deliver quick plot, quick characters, and it all comes
Together for a short but entertaining romp through universes imagined and delivered to you. Sit back relax and enjoy this quick listen. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

I enjoyed these two stories. Both "Mercury Rain" and "Blackwater" were written by Christian Galacer who also wrote "Whiskey Devil". While I wasn't crazy about the latter, these two stories were very good. I think Blackwater was indeed the best story. It definitely had the creepy factor especially for me as I live in an old mining town where not only my family, but other locals go way back to the early days of the town's mines and history.

I feel that Christian Galacer is an author to watch. He has a good grasp on this type of storytelling.

J.M. Needham's performance was perfect. His narration skills are excellent and the combination of this author/reader is a great match.

Two Really Good Stories

Really beautifully written horror prose with gruesome details and quality creepy moments. The performance is also very good and the intensity really adds to the entire tone and feel of these stories.

Excellent Horror

I enjoyed this book even though I had to listen to chapter 1 twice because I honestly didn’t realize it was over. Mercury rain interesting concept you loose your memory and don’t remember who you are but you know you have a job to do that you don’t loose your memory of almost sounds like your programed.
Black water moths in a cave that take over you get bitten and you are the mother of a out of control moth.
Where do people come up with this kind of horror? I love it.

Both of these stories are worth listening to. The second one would make a good campfire story.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The book runs for ~90 minutes, so even you don't like the stories that much, it doesn't waste much of your time. The book has 2 stories. The first one is pretty short and isn't all that interesting. In fact, you can pretty much skip that story and you won't miss much. It's the second story which is much more developed and interesting. The story creates intrigue and keeps you interested for most part. The ending leaves you sort of unsatisfied, wanting more. It sort of feels incomplete. I want to know what happens next at country level

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

The narration didn't quite impress me. It felt like monotone reading of passages, without much effort put into it. There were long passages that drove my attention away from the book and I tuned it out; only to have to rewind and relisten to them.

Any additional comments?

I received this audiobook for free from the author / narrator / publisher in exchange for an unbiased review.

Two shorts - One meh, one good.

Two short stories. The first is very short. It was a rather bleak view of the future, although probably not too far off. To be honest, if I lived in a world like this one, I may want to forget as well.
The second story was the majority of the running time and very creepy. It kind is f played with perceptions of what was really going on. Was he in a cave system or just lost and freaked out in the dark. Either way, the creatures were fascinating and gross at the same time. The creature popping out of the guys neck wound was the literary equivalent of the scene from Peter Jackson’s Dead Alive where the mothers arm wound erupted into the guys custard and he ate it. I got physically nauseous. Mr. Galacar knows what can give the creeps.

The narration was top notch as well. The eeriness of the mine was conveyed in both the printed and spoken word.

Definitely looking forward to more from both participants.

I requested a free preview copy of this audiobook and I am leaving a voluntary and honest review.

Interesting quick shorts.

There are 2 stories squeezed into 90 minutes here, and though both are good, the first is easily my favorite.

Mercury Rain is a short story taking place in a distant(?) future where man and machine are now at war. They're as smart as us, but with none of our fleshy weaknesses. What makes this story great though is the perspective from which it is told and the wonderfully-crafted ending that will leave you pondering well after the story ends.

The second tale, Black Water, is more traditional supernatural monster horror. It follows a miner that stumbles onto something buried deep under Pennsylvania soil. It's also written pretty well and is atmospheric enough to give the chills, but lacks a bit of the poetic and emotional flair of the first.

Both great listens though, especially given the run time.

I was provided these audiobooks free of charge in exchange for my honest review.
