Amelia is cleaning out her grandmother's attic when she stumbles across a book: Tales to Keep You Up at Night. But when she goes to the library to return it, she's told that the book never belonged there. Curious, she starts to read the stories: tales of strange incidents in nearby towns, of journal entries chronicling endless, twisting pumpkin vines, birthday parties gone awry, and cursed tarot decks. And at the center of the stories lies a family of witches. And witches, she's told, can look like anyone...

Historia
The New York Times Magazine’s award-winning “1619 Project” issue reframed our understanding of American history by placing slavery and its continuing legacy at the center of our national narrative. This new book substantially expands on that work, weaving together 18 essays that explore the legacy of slavery in present-day America with 36 poems and works of fiction that illuminate key moments of oppression, struggle, and resistance.

Not just for Black boys
Such a wonderful story of joy! The stories are very diverse; they make you laugh, make you feel sadness, some are fantastical and all are just cool. It was a pleasure to read & to listen to the audible. Everyone should read this book.

A joy to read!
I enjoyed Black Boy Joy. It’s like the beginning of 17 books I would love to read and share with black boys on their journey to becoming men.

This Book was a Joy!
Listened to this book during carpool drives with 2 black boys. We enjoyed it! Each story made all of us smile. I would buy full book versions of some of the stories in a heartbeat.

Extraordinary Tales of Exuberance!!!
Black Boy Joy grades away the dense sediment of pain and dismal prospects that the entertainment industry at large has placed on our childhood, and excavates out the pure jubilation that is our youthful existence. All authors capture the joyfulness that comes with childhood with the use of imagination, whimsy, finding happiness where ever it can be found, and just the pure bliss of knowing, being, and sometimes even the introduction of oneself. Black children, boys in particular, are often robbed of the public showcase of their joy, but this tome radiates rapture in its most idealized form. Some stories play to the imagination, while others ground the listener into the 'now,' but all are age appropriate, taking situations that are less than ideal, and finding the utter jocundity in them. No curses, no sexual situations, and no violence. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for all ages.

Not For Young Children
This book is intended for preteens and teenagers, and it covers topics related to sexuality and sexual orientation. These subjects may not have been introduced to younger children by some parents. I encourage parents to review the book first to ensure that it aligns with the discussions they've had within their family. The content addresses issues that are relevant to Black children's experiences as they grow older, and parents may want to be involved in guiding their children through these conversations.
