Acerca de esta escucha

Ten thorough chapters contain relevant research, reflection questions, exercises, and common-sense advice about the gritty, complex issues parents of estranged adult children face. Expand your self-awareness, strengthen your resilience, and take positive action for your life, your family, and your happiness.

All parents make mistakes. Some have deep regrets for things they did or didn't do. In one chapter, these parents share how they believe they fell short and how they're managing. How long must a parent bow to guilt, pay penance, and make amends? And, deplorably, do some adult children exploit their guilt?

For any parent of estranged adult children, reconciling may be a solo sport. Even when reconciliations do occur, their success requires wisdom and strength. That's why it's so important to empower yourself, make positive changes, and reclaim your life, even while waiting and continuing to reach out (if you choose to).

Beyond Done with the Crying: More Answers and Advice for Parents of Estranged Adult Children is filled with information and solutions to the complex, real-life problems that plague parents of estranged adult children and their families.

Insightful

The book helps you understand the feelings you might experience when dealing with an estranged child. It helps you know you are not alone and it helps you to feel confident about moving forward with your life. It’s a great book.

The performance overshadowed everything else.

I couldn’t finished this due to the overly dramatic and often breathy performance. It seemed disingenuous. I plan to buy the book and read it to glean what I’m sure is helpful information based on the author’s first book on the subject.

Find a different reader

Content is good but the reader is ruining it with over exaggeration. If feels demeaning and/or patronizing.

Good content, annoying narration

The narrator detracts from the content. Her voice sometimes sounds anguished and pitiful, not comforting for someone trying to get solace from a book like this.

The title could really be "How to Stay Estranged"

While I loved the wealth of coping tools the author provides for estranged parents, However, I felt the recovery methods presented could work almost too good, as to cut off all feeling for your adult child as they are right now. I was disappointed that the author did not provide more information on reconciliation and connecting with their estranged child. She seemed biased by her own experience with her son and a bit self rightoeous. I felt she threw him under the bus many times and enabled him by telling his story and explaining his behavior for him. She also showed almost no empathy or compassion for the adult children depicted in the book. This is the main ingredient needed to reconcile according to the "Prodigal Son" along with both paries being willing to do the work. Being diplomatic and speaking to someone in a way they can understand is not walking on eggshells, is is accepting where they are at right now. The thought crossed my mind more than once that she might be capitalizing on the estrangement of her son and the continued estrangement of other families by dwelling on dismal prophecies such as "you can never go home." if that is the case, we are all in trouble, because we are all "Every Day Prodigals" with God, yet he always keeps his arm stretched out to us in love and kindness, no matter how many times we turn away. Honoring our father and mother also means honoring our Heavenly Father and Mother by standing for them and doing what they would do in the same situation. I have told all my adult children I want them in my life very much however I extend the same courtesy to them as I do to my adult friends. They can be in or out of my life as much as they want. I made my parental sacrifices because I love them not because they are obligated to be in my life. I want them to WANT to be in my life. I love them no matter what they do or say. I may not always agree with what they do o say, but I still love THEM.

Isaiah 49
15 Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.
