A raw, honest account of the struggle to become better

Butterfield doesn't sugarcoat his struggles. He lays bare his insecurities, his moments of crippling doubt, and the often messy, uncomfortable process of trying to become "better." He speaks with a bluntness that's refreshing, a voice that feels like a brutally honest conversation with a mate down at the pub. He doesn't pretend to have all the answers, and that's precisely why his message resonates.

Like Butterfield, I've wrestled with the feeling of never being "enough." The constant internal monologue of self-doubt, the creeping fear of failure, the paralyzing uncertainty of what the future holds – it's a familiar landscape. He articulates the anxieties that many of us shove down, the ones we're afraid to admit, even to ourselves. He acknowledges the weight of societal expectations, the pressure to conform, and the struggle to forge your own path in a world that often seems designed to keep you small.

What truly struck a chord was his emphasis on perseverance. He doesn't offer a quick fix or a magic formula. Instead, he highlights the importance of showing up, even when you don't feel like it, of pushing through the discomfort, and of learning from the inevitable setbacks. He acknowledges that growth is rarely linear, that it's a process of stumbling, falling, and getting back up again, stronger and wiser.

Butterfield's style is abrasive, and his opinions are often controversial. But that's precisely what makes it authentic. It's a reflection of his own journey, his own flawed humanity. And in that imperfection, I found a sense of connection. I found a reminder that I'm not alone in my struggles, that the feelings of inadequacy and uncertainty are universal, and that perseverance, however messy, is the key to unlocking our potential.

"Betterman" isn't a book for everyone. But for those who are tired of the polished facades and the empty platitudes, for those who are looking for a raw, honest account of the struggle to become better, it's a breath of fresh, albeit sometimes foul-mouthed, air. It's a reminder that even in the midst of uncertainty, even when we feel like we're falling apart, we have the power to keep moving forward, to keep striving, and to ultimately, find our own version of "better."

Pretty good

It’s no master piece but it’s pretty good, and genuinely impressive for a first book

A positive life perspective for men

My wife introduced me to Isaac Butterfield's videos and she's been watching him for years. I only recently started enjoying his content, so I decided to give the book a try to get to know him a little better. This book really gave me a lot to think about in my own life, but really made me think of ways to convey these topics to my son, who is one of the many disaffected young men he speaks of in the book. As an army veteran, I know how true it is that you must expose yourself to hard experiences, learn from failures, and embrace true responsibility in order to be fulfilled as a man. Isaac definitely lays out many challenges he's faced in his life, failures of the mind that affect so many men, and how he overcomes them. He vividly defines the struggles of the internal battle men fight everyday. Really enjoyed the read, I look forward to more from you Isaac.
