Old Time Radio
Acerca de esta escucha
He stood just three feet tall, but his wit was larger than life! Charlie McCarthy was made of wood, but to millions of radio listeners, he was as real as Edgar Bergen - and much, much funnier. Impudent, irreverent, and positively irrepressible, here are 16 rare and classic radio episodes featuring Charlie himself.
The droll dummy is delighted when special guests Hedy Lamar, Veronica Lake, Ray Milland, Ed Gardner, and Orson Welles stop by. Ray Noble and his Orchestra are also on hand, along with a young Jane Powell. And, oh yeah, Edgar Bergen's here, too.
Episodes Include: Guest: Marjorie Main 10-10-43; Guest: Dorothy Lamour 10-31-43; Guest: Jane Powell and Bob Burns 11-07-43; Guest: Hedy Lamarr 11-21-43; Guests: Jane Powell, Bert Lahr and Fats Waller 12-05-43; Guests: Jane Powell, Bert Lahr and Paulette Goddard 12-12-43; Guest: Veronica Lake 12-26-43; Guests: Prince Michael Romanoff and Paulette Goddard 01-09-44; Guest: Edward Everett Horton 02-13-44; Guest: Dorothy Lamour 02-27-44; Guests: Ray Milland and Jane Powell 04-09-44; Guest: Gene Lockhart 04-16-44; Guest: Ed Gardner 05-07-44; Guest: Signe Hasso 05-14-44; Guest: James Melton 05-21-44; Guest: Orson Welles 05-28-44

"I'll clip ya, Bergen... so help me, I'll mow you down!" Charlie cheerfully threatens, insults, and otherwise needles the elegant Edgar through 16 digitally remastered episodes - all of them from the 1950s, and seven of them never before available to the public. The aging, man-crazy mannequin Effie Clinker bends your ear (and her elbow); and modest Mortimer Snerd gives new meaning to the phrase "ventriloquist's dummy".

Historia
Casanova…Don Juan…Charlie McCarthy? Ventriloquist Edgar Bergen achieved stardom playing both straight man and comedian with his wooden alter ego Charlie McCarthy. The Charlie McCarthy Show was one of radio’s top-rated shows for nearly two decades. Button down and bow-tied, the gentlemanly Bergen would never behave improperly with a lady. Charlie, on the other hand, is frisky, flirtatious, and brave enough to bring his game to guests Bette Davis and Hedy Lamarr, among others.

Great Comedy Show!
I have been a fan of the Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy comedy radio show for about two decades. I had not heard these particular episodes before. Bottom line: barrels of laughter!
