Acerca de esta escucha

Before he was a policeman, DI Declan Walsh was a Corporal in the Special Investigation Branch of the Royal Military Police, resigning after a case went terribly wrong, ending with Declan and his SIB partner, Lance-Corporal Moses killing the main suspect of a case in self-defence.

Now, over ten years later and after the shocking events at the end of A DINNER TO DIE FOR, Declan is approached by his old mentor, Colonel Yates to return to the SIB as a consultant, as the body of Moses has been found on a research base in the Peak District, hidden for a year, and a piece of paper with Declan's name on it, discovered in his wallet, is their only clue as to who did it—or how.

With DCI Monroe alongside him, Declan finds himself returning to a life he thought long gone, in the process not only investigating the events that led to Moses' death, but also learning of an underground fight club between regiments with fatal results, finding himself confronted by old enemies with scores to settle, and working with a Ministry of Defence Police detective with a chilling connection to Declan's past.

And when the other members of the Last Chance Saloon arrive, tasked by the new Prime Minister to investigate a stolen weapon from the same base, Declan realises that not only are these two crimes connected, but both Declan, and those he cares for, are in the firing line...

And this time, it won't be Declan who lives to tell the tale...

Favorite one so far!

This is the best in series for me! The characters are so well written and quite believable and the stories and narrative are superb.

I particularly loved the nod to two detectives from two other superb series that I love ( DCIs GRIMM and LOGAN— look them up!)

Very much looking forward to the next!

At this point, only following the series because it’s free.

I keep waiting for the author to change it up. I admit I’m curious what happens next with the characters but it’s all gotten pretty dull. Literally every single book has the exact same structure.

1 - so many characters thrown in that you have to write them down to keep up and it makes it all muddled.
2- there should be a drinking game for every time something is “niggling at the back of his mind“. You’ll be hammered.
3- every time the author discovers a new catchphrase he over uses it I.e. “ he smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes” 🤦‍♀️
4- literally every single time… At the end of the book, there is a long diatribe where Decland explains everything. I mean in one book he literally had the entire legislature of England, including the queen sitting there, possibly poisoned while explained how he figured it all out and everyone admitted what they did. It’s ridiculous honestly. EVERY. SINGLE. BOOK.

I guess the point where you don’t really even have to listen because you know at the end, there’s gonna be too many characters to have kept up with and someone’s just going to admit what they did even when they are holding him at gunpoint and could shoot him at any second they’re going to wait for him to give his long explanation.

The “crime” in each book could be interesting, possibly. But the fact that he follows the exact same recipe for every single story, just speaks to laziness and pushing a bunch of books out without really putting any effort in. I listened because it was free and I was out of credits and then I listened again a couple of times because they were free and I wanted to see if it got any better. They didn’t. Is the exact same story literally every single time.
