The Battle of New Orleans: The Story of Three Cajun Teenagers" is a captivating historical fiction that brings the War of 1812 to life through the eyes of young Cajun heroes. Set against the backdrop of the Louisiana bayou, this tale follows Jacques, Marie, and Henri as they embark on a journey from mischievous teens to unlikely war heroes.
The narrative sparkles with authentic Cajun dialect and vivid descriptions that transport listeners to the heart of the bayou. The story skillfully weaves historical facts with local folklore, creating a rich tapestry that educates as it entertains. The characters are well-developed, each bringing their unique strengths to the story, from Jacques' bravery to Marie's healing abilities and Henri's strategic mind.
The battle scenes are thrilling and realistically portrayed, balancing the excitement of conflict with the sobering realities of war. The story doesn't shy away from the darker aspects of the conflict, providing a nuanced view of heroism and sacrifice.
The overall story is engaging. This book is a wonderful introduction to an often-overlooked period of American history, perfect for young adults and history buffs alike. The story's blend of adventure, history, and Cajun culture makes for an unforgettable read.

Bayou kids become heros!
An interesting look at the Battle of New Orleans through the eyes of three Cajun teens coming of age in a time of war. The character development made what could have been dry history much more exciting. Through his narration, Mr. Larsen attempts to bring even more life to the story. The author makes use of colloquialisms and paints imaginative word pictures to move the story along.

Exciting American History Brought to Life
I don't usually listen to books so this was a new experience for me. I really enjoyed it. I felt much more involved in the story than I do when I read a book. This was a great introduction to audible books because the narrator was incredible! I could close my eyes and be there, experiencing the individual characters' emotions and the action as it unfolded. I am an audio book convert and will be on the lookout for more books narrated by Steve Larsen.

Cajun joyride into history
What am enjoyable listen from start to finish!
I listened in two sittings.( Would have been one, but an obligation interrupted.) This yarn brought history to life. The descriptive talents of the author made me feel like I was there with the characters. The reader, Steve Larsen, both through his easy flow and vocal creation of characters, takes the listener on a feast for the imagination journey.
