Acerca de esta escucha
It is the story of how ambitious men and women climbed out of rural obscurity and "how friendships break down and lives are ruined". Anecdotes fall like bright coins from a raconteur's rich purse.
"Whitewater" is shown for what it was, a venture in land speculation that fell victim to mismanagement and high interest rates. Lies and cover-ups were the inevitable result.
Vintage political history, Arkansas Mischief is a southern tragedy with lessons for us all.

This is the story of the rise to national power of a desperately poor young man from the Texas Hill Country. The Path to Power reveals in extraordinary detail the genesis of the almost superhuman drive, energy, and ambition that set LBJ apart. It follows him from the Hill Country to New Deal Washington, from his boyhood through the years of the Depression to his debut as Congressman, his heartbreaking defeat in his first race for the Senate, and his attainment, nonetheless, at age 31, of the national power for which he hungered.

Historia
Andrew Cuomo is the protagonist of an ongoing political saga that reads like a novel. In many ways his rise, fall, and rise again is an iconic story: a young American politician of vaunting ambition, aiming for nothing less than the presidency. Building on his father's political success, a first run for governor in 2002 led to a stinging defeat and a painful, public divorce from Kerry Kennedy, scion of another political dynasty. Cuomo had to come back from seeming political death and reinvent himself.

Like the Rockefellers and the Kennedys, the Kochs are one of the most influential dynasties of the modern age, but they have never been the subject of a major biography... until now. Not long after the death of his father, Charles Koch, then in his early 30s, discovered a letter the family patriarch had written to his sons. "You will receive what now seems to be a large sum of money," Fred Koch cautioned. "It may either be a blessing or a curse."

She was born in 1930 in El Paso and grew up on a cattle ranch in Arizona. At a time when women were expected to be homemakers, she set her sights on Stanford University. When she graduated near the top of her law school class in 1952, no firm would even interview her. But Sandra Day O’Connor’s story is that of a woman who repeatedly shattered glass ceilings - doing so with a blend of grace, wisdom, humor, understatement, and cowgirl toughness.

Historia
Few institutions are as loved, as loathed, and as historically important as the United States Postal Service, the subject of this landmark century-spanning social, political, and economic history. The United States Postal Service is a wondrous American creation. Seven days a week, its army of 300,000 letter carriers delivers 513 million pieces of mail, 40 percent of the world's volume. It is far more efficient than any other mail service - more than twice as efficient as the Japanese and easily outpacing the Germans and British. And the USPS has a storied history.

No more Clintons in the White House
And I thought I didn't like Hillary BEFORE I listened to this book. Jim McDougall is no saint, but this books makes me feel sorry for him.

Interesting but very self serving
It was interesting to hear this story from his point of view, but it was not really the whole truth. And the way he defends Bill Clinton (who slept with his wife Susan and lied on the stand in court!) and the. crucified Hilary Clinton puts his credibility in question. Hard to believe a lot of his story.

Surprisingly good read,
I listen to a lot of political books and books on history and I had set the bar fairly low for this one but ended up loving it for the story and the narration.

Good flowing listen
Interesting story, shows in exceeding detail how DEMs operate: cheating, lying, paying for votes, accepting quid-pro-quo bribes. Also shows in exceeding detail how DEMs feel outraged when caught. Oh, and yet more proof that Hilary is a despicable person.

Fair to middlin'
Fairly entertaining overview of Arkansas history, and somewhat amusing portrait of McDougal. Anyone looking for much dirt or depth on the Clintons would do wise to skip this book. Not only does McDougal come across as worshipful of Bill, his criticisms of Hillary are quite mild. Yes, this was a failed land deal...but it barely registers any discussion that the sitting president of the United States perjured himself over this scandal. It would not be the last time.
You get no real understanding of why this was a "national scandal". It is so apologetic to the Clintons it was at times nauseating. But...what do you expect from someone who grew up worshipping tyrants such as FDR?
I zoomed through this book waiting for it to get good, and it really never did. In the end, to paraphrase another southern gentleman....it was full of not much fury, and signified very little.

Death Bed Biography
This is a revisionist biography. The title is totally misleading. If my memory is correct, the Clinton's were first mentioned in Chapter 8. I don't blame McDougal for wanting to tell his story, his way, at the end of his life. However, I fault Wilkie for letting this book drone on with a totally misleading concept.
