Acerca de esta escucha

“Almost all of the philosophical truths that I have come to know and understand I have learned from Aristotle,” says Mortimer J. Adler. This easy-to-listen-to exposition of Aristotle’s thoughts about nature, human actions, and the conduct of life confirms convictions that most of us hold, though we may not be fully aware of them. This is because Aristotle’s philosophical insights are grounded in the common experience we all possess and because they illuminate the common sense we all rely on.

Philosophy is everybody’s business. It deepens our understanding of the knowledge we already have about ourselves, our society, and the world in which we live. With the proper guidance, all of us can experience success and great satisfaction from this effort of understanding, and in this, no better guide can be found than Aristotle.

Reseñas de la Crítica

“This is a self-help book in the best sense of the term.... The Aristotelian wisdom Adler affords us goes far beyond anything all the Norman Vincent Peales, Michael Kordas, and Wayne W. Dyers combined have to offer. Above all, Adler once again demonstrates that philosophy, real philosophy, can actually be useful.” ( Chicago Tribune Book World)
“Davidson has a wonderful voice. Far from common, it’s a genuinely erudite English actor’s voice. His sound is classy and classical.” ( AudioFile)

Interesting material, dry delivery

This was a nice overview of Aristotle and his contribution to thinking. The narration was a bit dry but otherwise a useful investment of time.

Must read

This maybe the first or second best book I've ever read. We should teach this book to everyone in high schools everywhere. How to think is the primary problem in society today, and this book would go a long way to solving that problem.

A superb introduction to one of the most important thinkers of all time -- Aristotle

My college course in Greek philosophy left me flat, so I was content with a superficial view of Aristotle. Dr. Adler has wonderfully opened this great thinker. He lays out the key elements of the philosophy in clear explanations. Most importantly, he shows that Aristotle taught common sense answer to explain life. Adler helps any reader grasp Aristotle's ideas. He further shows how useful and important they are for living life.

I loved this book.

this is philosophy... you're not going to get it at 2x speed or even the first time

Author does a great job compacting at least two semesters into a short concise overview. It would be worth while to pair this with an audible course on Aristotle.

Listen to the sample!

A classic, and terrific primer. However, this title is long overdue for a new narration.

Great book.

This book is pure value. Aristotle is very well introduced here. I listened to this book before studying the primary text and I am very satisfied.

Excellent primer on basic logic...

Fantastic introduction to Aristotle and Thomas Aquinas's sound way of basic human reason and logic.
