Round the world offers not only a glimpse into the cultures throughout the world, but a step back in time to 1878. A time when gold was money, national debts were small, governments were small, many governments were aristocratic, and war had left America looking for world peace.
Andrew was born November 25, 1835, in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland making him 42 at the start of this journey round the world.
John Vandevort was roughly 40 years of age for this trip as well. He is typically referred to by the nickname of Vandy throughout the book. Vandy was a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and invested in the steel industry with Andrew Carnegie.
