Acerca de esta escucha

A novel filled with fresh insights into the story of Henry VIII's second - and most infamous - wife, Anne Boleyn. The new book in the epic Six Tudor Queens series, from the acclaimed historian and best-selling author of Katherine of Aragon.

It is the spring of 1527. Henry VIII has come to Hever Castle in Kent to pay court to Anne Boleyn. He is desperate to have her. For this mirror of female perfection he will set aside his queen and all Cardinal Wolsey's plans for a dynastic French marriage.

Anne Boleyn is not so sure. She loathes Wolsey for breaking her betrothal to the Earl of Northumberland's son, Harry Percy, whom she had loved. She does not welcome the king's advances; she knows that she can never give him her heart. But hers is an opportunist family. And whether Anne is willing or not, they will risk it all to see their daughter on the throne.

My favorite queen

Well done. This book focuses not only on Anne's flaws as a human, but on her desire to survive. She had to be cunning and intelligent and outmanuveur people. It wasn't ONLY sleeping with the king. Can you imagine walking in on YOUR husband with someone? It must have been hard on her.

This book is a great representation of what she could have been like, based on record and letters recovered. Another wonderful Weir book.

Amazing story, well written and performed

One of the most amazing stories in history, brought to life in well-written, historically accurate novel form. Performed EXTREMELY well. The only downside (minor) is that it is just a bit long — trimming a few scenes would not have damaged the impact of the story or the performance. Truly enjoyed.

Meh

I didn’t care for this version of Anne’s story. Weir removed a lot of responsibility from Anne by emphasizing the family politics and the king’s obsession. I’m sure as a woman in this time period, her family and her king played a role in her ultimate displacement of Katherine and marriage to Henry but this version removed Anne’s ambition. It is not seen until later after she has become queen.

loved it

a little too much of King Henry and his "darling" comments. I loved Anne Bolen's portrayal. The last chapter had me in tears!

Don't lose your head (or gain a finger)!

If you are a stickler for Tudor history, specifically that of Anne Boleyn or the other five of Henry VIII's wives, I'm not sure if I would recommend this book-or series. I am a dear Anne Boleyn sympathizer and I almost could not get away from various historical inaccuracies even after reminding myself that this is a work of historical fiction. Of course we will never fully know what happened during the time Anne Boleyn was queen, however inaccuracies such as Anne's sixth finger (proved false in 19th century) absolutely grind my gears. To avoid spoilers for those that do not care about such petty inaccuracies, I will only speak of this one since it is brought up in the first chapter and one of the most widely known of Anne Boleyn, albeit one that is easily fact checked.

THAT SAID!

The story itself-if you are able to separate truth from fiction-is beautifully written and engaging. In historical fiction, especially history that is almost 500 years old, it is near impossible to avoid inaccuracies. Alison Weir has also written numerous nonfiction books about Tudor history, so if this series isn't for you, I do recommend Weir's nonfiction catalog as well.
