This series has been by far one of the most entertaining I have listened to in a long time... I'm on the edge of my seat here waiting for Meanwhile In Deadwood to be available on audible....

More of Violet's adventures in Deadwood

This is a sub-par entry in the Deadwood Mysteries series by Ann Charles. Not a heck of a lot happens in the first half of the book, and rather than being a self-contained mystery within a larger multi-book story arc (as the earlier books were) just ends on a cliff-hanger of a revelation. I hate that!

Violet, an incredibly strong character in most aspects of her life, continues to doubt her relationship with Doc. Or rather, Doc's feelings for her. "Does he love me? Oh, he can't love a woman with kids! He told Tiffany he didn't want to get married! Does he love me?" Over and over and over. But she won't ask him because she's afraid of the answer. Their sex scenes are fewer in this book, but remain X rated.

All that being said, I did enjoy it, and if you have read the previous 4 books in the series, you will definitely want to read this one. The story arc of paranormal happenings in Deadwood, and Violet's place in them are moved forward, albeit grudgingly.

Caroline Shaffer's narration continues to shine. Every character, male and female, is clearly defined. Her voicing of Old Man Harvey continues to be a hoot.

I'm going to finish with a pet peeve. I can't understand why the Audible version of this series is not released at the same time as the books. This book was published more than a year ago, and there is now a 6th book out which still isn't on Audible. Record them faster, people! This is a series that really comes alive with a good narrator.

I'm half way through, if you made it this far you're probably hooked like me. I LOVE the characters. The witty banter has me laughing out loud. The mysterious monsters are still a mystery yet. I'm so looking forward to the next reveals.

This and ALL the books in this series grab your attention and keep you earning to hear more!! This far into the Deadwood series and I still love them all equally as much. Not one has been a let-down! The humor is perfect and develops the characters in your mind explicitly. There are steamy scenes buy not "over the top" like some other authors choose to write. Keep it coming Ms. Charles!! 😉👍☕

It’s taking me a while to get adjusted to listening to the audible books but with each one I am getting hooked. Love mysteries ghost and witches so this book will winning my heart. Recommend it to everyone and know everyone who reads it will be happy.
