Gibt es wahre Zauberei, unbegrenzte Magie und allmächtige Hexen in unserer heutigen Zeit?
Die Reisebloggerin Freya, die ständig mit ihrem Älterwerden hadert, hat hierzu eine klare Meinung und hält nichts von all diesem esoterischen Humbug. Ihrer Meinung nach, existiert Magie nur in der Einbildung einiger weniger Verrückter.
Trotzdem wird sie genau zu solch einer angeblich naturmagischen Veranstaltung nach Dänemark geschickt, um für einen Halloween-Reisebericht zu recherchieren. Da sie inzwischen allerdings weniger Aufträge bekommt, weil jüngere Kollegen bevorzugt werden und ihre Chefin glaubt, sie gehöre der passenden Generation für einen Artikel dieser Art an, bleibt ihr keine Wahl.
Am Ziel angekommen, beginnt sie eher skeptisch mit den ersten Interviews. Erstaunt entdeckt sie jedoch, dass magische Fähigkeiten tatsächlich existieren und erfährt, warum sich Hexentalente oft erst in der zweiten Lebenshälfte entwickeln.
Noch überraschender kommt die Erkenntnis, dass auch sie selbst sich zu einer Alltagshexe weiterentwickelt und nun lernen muss, mit ihren, noch in den Kinderschuhen befindlichen, Zauberkräften umzugehen. Wie sie zu ihrem Leidwesen bald feststellt, ist Zaubern in der Realität auch nicht so einfach wie es in den bekannten fantastischen Welten in Filmen und Büchern dargestellt wird.
Ihr neues Hexenleben beginnt schließlich mit der Chance, ein Vereinsmagazin für die Gemeinschaft der Alltagshexen allein verantwortlich auf den Weg zu bringen. Dabei wird sie vom charmanten Seminarleiter Malvin unterstützt, der ihr Herz höherschlagen lässt und ihr hilft, sich in dieser neu zu entdeckenden magischen Welt zurecht zu finden, die sich vor aller Augen unter der Oberfläche der Normalität verbirgt.
Ein spannendes Wohlfühlbuch über besondere Fähigkeiten mit humorvollen Dialogen - ganz ohne Vampire und Werwölfe - dafür mit einem Hauch von Magie.
Die Geschichte ist der Beginn der mehrteiligen Urban Fantasy-Serie Hexenlichtung, die im Hier und jetzt mitten unter uns in Deutschland spielt.
