Astoundingly fresh and just so GOOD

I can’t remember the last time I encountered a writer who so effectively breaks new ground. Saying it is a ‘fresh voice’ is somewhat cliche— but so it is. I enjoyed these stories immensely. I particularly appreciate depictions of women and girls of very diverse backgrounds that are entirely without stereotype.

This is the book for you. One of the best books of short stories i have ever read. great performance, great stories.

Damn. This is incredible.

Excellent writing, story telling, and narration. I’m wanting to listen to its spookiness and feelings all over again. Best I’ve read/heard in quite some time.

Interesting premises, somewhat flat conclusions

I found so many of the ideas and characters engaging, especially in the latter half of the collection, that I was pulled along. Yet much of the time the story came to an abrupt conclusion. Set-ups were often not paid off. I don't need everything wrapped up in a neat little bow, but the scenario often terminates without resolution. I'm sure it's a stylistic decision, which is surprising in itself, although I began to notice the unsatisfying terminus at each story's end so that I found myself wishing for a satisfying landing.

didn't expect the dystopian nature of the stories. struggled to finish it, but finish it I did.

Not for me

Another review mentioned if you like closure this is the book for you, I did not get the same experience reading this book. I got 2 stories in before telling myself I couldn’t do another story with such an abrupt ending. I really wanted to like this book and because of the title of the book, I expected so much more emotion and motivation to come from it. The stories I finished felt like the story got right to the climax and just ran out of creativity and ended.

Well written, but not for me.

This is an interesting collection but I didn’t connect with any of the protagonists in any of the stories. It just wasn’t for me.

Didn't like

I really struggled with this one. The stories didn't end well and I didn't really see a point to the book. First audible I've ever had trouble getting through.

...too bad. That’s how these stories are. They all seem to set up for some kind of big finish- or at least an interesting finish- and yet they fall flat in a frustrating, lackadaisical, unapologetic nothingness. The stories would be interesting if they had any kind of point or even simply a destination. But they just end.
