Acerca de esta escucha

Discover the mind behind the modern economy.
This edition features a custom introduction offering biographical insight into Adam Smith’s life and the historical context that shaped his revolutionary ideas. From his early years in Scotland to his mentorship under moral philosopher Francis Hutchinson, uncover the journey that culminated in two of history’s most influential works.

The Wealth of Nations (1776), presented in its complete, unabridged version, laid the foundation for modern economic theory. Divided into five parts, Smith’s analysis of self-interest, free markets, and the division of labor continues to shape economic policies worldwide.

The Theory of Moral Sentiments (1759), which Smith considered his most important work, explores human morality. Smith argues that empathy—what he called a “mutual sympathy of sentiments”—plays a crucial role in shaping our actions toward others.

Together, these works present a complete vision of Smith’s philosophy: a world where human behavior is driven by both economic self-interest and moral responsibility. His timeless ideas remain essential for understanding the complex relationship between economics and human nature, and continue to influence thought today.

Spanning over 57 hours, whether you're studying economics, philosophy, or seeking to grasp the foundations of capitalism and morality, the Adam Smith Collection offers an unparalleled journey into the mind of the father of modern economics.

A Perfect Rendering of this Seminal Work

The is a perfect rendering of Adam Smith’s timeless tome on economics and social development. While a lot of the real-world examples are understandably anachronistic (he discusses slavery in economic terms, after all) the underlying logic and analysis is nonetheless sound. Adam Smith doesn’t need my endorsement, so I give this review mostly of the rendering of the audiobook, which is about as close to perfect as it could be.

It made me question how I make choices everyday

I honestly didn’t expect this to grab me, but it really made me think. The whole idea that we act out of self-interest but still care about others hit me harder than I expected. I started seeing these patterns in my own life and in the world around me. It’s a long listen, but the lessons are real, and they make you rethink a lot of things—how you spend, how you treat people, even how you think about your own goals. If you're ever curious about what really drives us, this book gives you a new way to look at everything.

A Timeless Masterpiece of Economics and Morality

The Adam Smith Collection brings together two of the most profound and enduring works in human thought, The Wealth of Nations and The Theory of Moral Sentiments, offering a rare glimpse into the genius behind modern economic and ethical theory. I’ve read various editions over the years, but this one, with its rich introduction, beautifully contextualizes Smith’s life, mentorship under Francis Hutchinson, and the intellectual climate of 18th-century Scotland. It’s not just a collection but a true journey through the mind of one of history's greatest philosophers.

Economics + Empathy = Mind Blown

Who knew Adam Smith was this cool? I picked up the Adam Smith Collection thinking I’d just skim the big ideas, but wow—this is deep stuff! The Wealth of Nations really breaks down how markets work, and you start to see the world through a totally new lens. But the surprise for me was The Theory of Moral Sentiments. Smith goes beyond money and talks about how empathy and morality fit into our everyday decisions. It’s like getting both sides of his brain—economics and ethics. If you’re curious about how capitalism started and want to dive into some timeless philosophy, this collection is a solid choice.
