Excellent!

I really enjoyed this book. Of course Missy and Moses were my favorite characters. As a Christian, I thought fiction and nonfiction were woven together beautifully. This story has brought me peace and a renewed determination to share the gospel with all. Thank you Mr. Anderson.

good story, but preachy

Over all this is a good story and the characters were developed well, however, the last half of the book becomes very preachy and in parts I felt like I was listening to an evangelical preacher scream from his pulpit. If you can get past that it is an enjoyable listen.

Satisfying Story

I found the narration to be wonderful, and the story emotionally gripped me immediately. The mastery of the writing in what is not a religious book, depicted people with good hearts and souls and their struggles to stave off the devil's influence through the strength of their Christian faith. The personality development left me feeling as though I knew the characters and cared about them, and the beauty of the relationship of black and white folks in the south was a depiction that is not easy to forget. It is the story of teaching, love, and life that was a natural outgrowth of their actions. There is a little mystery, a little suspense, and many powerful moments. The everyday struggles between good and evil resonate throughout the story and culminate in an unforgetable and captivating account of the ability of people to live in harmony, and to love and take care of one another as we were created and expected to do. I will proably listen to it again and look forward to the author's next story.

I enjoyed this book tremendously. It wasn't especially well written but the narrator and the storyline made it a very worthwhile book to pass the time while I walked each day. I think the narrator was one of the best I've heard.

This would Never have been in my grandma's hobo!

For those of you that don't know what a hobo is, it is the green garbage can on wheels that we folks in South Georgia roll out to the street once a week for the city workers to collect our trash out of.
20 years ago we were at my Grandmothers enjoying a family cookout. My husband and I carried some trash outside to the "hobo" and on top of the garbage bags lay a hard back book that looked brand new. We figured that she had thrown the book away in error. When we carried the book back into the house and gave it to her explaining - she gasped and said, "No - No, I meant to throw that away. I ordered that book not knowing what it was about and it wasn't good. In fact it was bad and about wrong things. I don't want you children finding bad books like that when I'm gone and you have to clean out my house! Please go put it back in the hobo!"
We always laugh when we retell that story. If my grandmother was still alive, this book would have been on her bedside table.
Warning: the contents of this book will affect you. Be ready to be moved. It will scare you. It will make you nervous. It will warm your heart at times and make you cry. The characters are real and you will feel as though you know them personally. John Aubrey Anderson nailed this book. I've never read the doctrine of the things of life & the things before and after life,ever written so wonderfully in a secular book. No, my grandmother wouldn't have ever thrown this book in her hobo. She'd have had it known herself and made it known to all of us. Thank you Mr. Anderson for the work I know you went through in writing this book. Now, will you please do me a favor and finish the next ones? I will be waiting... Oh yeah - Readers, do yourself a favor and go check out this book at the library, at the store, on line, whatever, just read the book!

Terrible

Parts of the story are not bad however; the reader is treated like a heathen and an idiot. In my opinion, the author could have gotten his point across the first time and did not need the endless references. Put down your stick cave dweller, we got it.

Wrong genre?

Nothing like what it's portrayed to be. I downloaded this book because of the review that says it's like Steven King, but with angels and demons instead of monsters.
It's basically written as if someone is preaching to you about being a better catholic. There is a story, but with every other line telling you that you have to be a better Christian.
I'd like to say I'm not against books like this. In fact I listened to the entire book. But I downloaded it to help with my 12hr drive and wanted more of a "thriller/suspense". This should be in the fiction religion. No where near "Stephen King" genre
