Erfindungen, die gegenwärtig undenkbar erscheinen, ermöglichen in der Welt von morgen vielleicht das heute für unmöglich Gehaltene. Von der Beeinflussung des Wetters über das Wunder der Atomkraft , der guten alten Zeitreise, bis zur Hoffnung auf Unsterblichkeit: Das Ausspinnen der Welt von morgen spiegelt immer die Wünsche, aber auch die Ängste der Menschen im Hier und Jetzt.
Die neunteilige Hörspielreihe Abenteuer der Zukunft aus dem Jahre 1959 steht klassisch im Stile der großen Science-Fiction-Erzähler des vergangenen Jahrhunderts. Wie in den Geschichten eines Isaac Asimov, Stanislaw Lem, Robert Heinlein oder Philip K. Dick staunt der Hörer der Abenteuer der Zukunft über die Wunder technologischer Innovation. Die Bewunderung begleitet allerdings stets eine gehörige Portion Pessimismus. So drängen in allen Geschichten Fritz Puhls die gesellschaftlichen Folgen der Neuerungen in den Fokus. Aus heutiger Sicht werfen wir einen wunderbaren Blick auf die Hoffnungen und Schrecken der Menschen in den späten 1950er-Jahren. Spannend, kritisch und ungemein unterhaltsam.
Der Theater- und Rundfunkregisseur Siegfried Oswald Wagner (S. O. Wagner) inszenierte die Reihe Abenteuer der Zukunft 1959 für den Norddeutschen Rundfunk. Für diesen setzte er auch Paul-Cox-Hörspiele und weitere Reihen wie Gruseln vor Mitternacht und Spionage (ebenfalls bei Pidax erhältlich) um. Gerade das Aufgreifen kritischer Themen wie Gehirnmanipulation, atomare Energiegewinnung und ihre Folgen oder auch die Gier nach ewiger Jugend lässt die Abenteuer der Zukunft selbst nach mehr als 50 Jahren noch erstaunlich modern wirken. Auch wenn sich die Lebensumstände ändern - der Mensch selbst, sein Hang zum Guten wie zum Schlechten, scheint dies nur in gewissem Maße zu tun.
