Acerca de esta escucha

Published posthumously in 1964, A Moveable Feast remains one of Ernest Hemingway's most beloved works. It is his classic memoir of Paris in the 1920s, filled with irreverent portraits of other expatriate luminaries such as F. Scott Fitzgerald and Gertrude Stein; tender memories of his first wife, Hadley; and insightful recollections of his own early experiments with his craft. It is a literary feast, brilliantly evoking the exuberant mood of Paris after World War I and the youthful spirit, unbridled creativity, and unquenchable enthusiasm that Hemingway himself epitomized.©1964 Ernest Hemingway Ltd. Reseñas de la Crítica

"Hemingway beautifully captures the fragile magic of a special time and place, and he manages to be nostalgic without hitting any false notes of sentimentality." (Amazon.com)

Paris Never Leaves You

This is the story of Hemingway's time in Paris as a young man and of the various relationships he held with those who wandered into his life during those halcyon days. James Naughton does an absolutely splendid job with one of Hemingway's most personal novel. Highly recommended.

A memoir

A memoir of Hemingway's early years in Paris, still married to his first wife, Hadley, friend of Gertrude Stein, and of F Scott Fitzgerald, Hemingway tells a tale of daily life when he was young and poor and happy.

A Better Understanding of Hemingway

I am trying to get to know Earnest Hemingway and this book gives significant insight into his personal thinking a novel would not convey. Through this book you see him looking back at his life as a young writer, husband and the friends he kept. What struck me about this book was his emotional and psychological condition as he was writing this book at the end of his life. If you read or listen to his books, then this one is critical to understanding this important American writer.

Romance of life in Paris

Interesting to hear the accounts of Scott (“Fitzgerald” when H was mad at him), Stein, and his marriage and affair, told from the inside. I don’t think it’s possible to live like that anymore, which is both understandable and sad.

A powerful, honest, bittersweet memoir

A powerful, honest, bittersweet memoir. So much of the later Hemingway comes through. To be savored, true or less so.

A Glimpse into

Ernest Hemingway's A Moveable Feast is a captivating memoir that offers an intimate glimpse into the author's life during the vibrant and transformative 1920s in Paris. Hemingway's prose is both sparse and evocative, bringing to life the cafes, streets, and personalities of the era with unparalleled clarity. The memoir's genesis is particularly fascinating, rooted in the rediscovery of Hemingway's long-forgotten notebooks in the basement of the Hôtel Ritz Paris in 1956. These notes, meticulously kept during his early years in Paris, provide the foundation for this literary treasure, making it not only a compelling read but also a poignant artifact of a bygone time. Hemingway’s encounters with literary giants such as F. Scott Fitzgerald, Gertrude Stein, and Ezra Pound are depicted with a blend of admiration and candidness, providing readers with a nuanced view of these iconic figures.

The richness of Hemingway's experiences and his keen observations on writing, life, and love are beautifully captured in the audiobook version, narrated by James Naughton. Naughton's narration is nothing short of excellent; his deep, resonant voice and measured pacing perfectly complement Hemingway's writing style. Each chapter is delivered with a sense of authenticity and respect for the material, making the listener feel as though they are walking alongside Hemingway through the streets of Paris. Naughton's ability to convey the nuances of Hemingway's wit, frustrations, and passions adds a new dimension to the memoir, enhancing the overall experience.

A Moveable Feast is a must-read (or must-listen) for anyone interested in the Lost Generation, literary history, or simply a well-told story of a remarkable life. The audiobook version, with James Naughton’s exceptional narration, offers an immersive experience that brings Hemingway’s Paris to life in a way that is both engaging and deeply moving. This combination of Hemingway's masterful storytelling and Naughton's compelling performance makes A Moveable Feast a true 5-star experience.
