Children were born there, both heirs and bastards. It had ghosts and legends and a history that grew stranger with every generation.

Pleasant entry in the Dickens canon
There are definitely echoes of "A Christmas Carol" found in this essay. Overall it is a nice remembrance of Dickens, and his generation, of the Christmas tree's role in the holiday. Michael Page is one of my favorite narrators. His clear, crisp voice makes what could have been a slightly above average story far better.
