Carl Jung was one of the first and most widely read writers of the twentieth century on the psychology of the human mind. He worked with Sigmund Freud, with whom he shared a fascination for the unconscious, but the irreconcilable differences of their practice eventually led them to part ways. Jung regarded the unconscious and its symbolic content as crucial to our psychological development; among the central concepts of analytical psychology is individuation, which is the lifelong psychological process of differentiation of the self. After working as an assistant physician at the Burghölzli Hospital in Zürich, in 1902 he published his doctorate titled The Psychology and Pathology of So-Called Occult Phenomena. In it, he describes various clinical cases of split consciousness, twilight states, and somnambulism, and presents the case of an adolescent medium whose séances he had attended in the 1890s.

Published first in 1912, Psychology of the Unconscious was one of the most important stepping stones in the development of Jung’s thought and practice. It has a long subtitle: A Study of the Transformations and Symbolisms of the Libido. A Contribution to the History of the Evolution of Thought. This expressed the underlying impetus - a break from the view of the libido and its functions as taught by Sigmund Freud, which Jung had earlier adopted. It was from this point that the two approaches, which came to be known as the Swiss and Viennese schools, emerged.

Thought provoking. Mentor. Concise. Simple. Deep.
This book is a great teacher. It gives seeds to examine oneself. It's definitely a good buy.

Great content; nerdy form
The content of Jungs' messages are substantial enough to withstand the nerd-ness of the reader's voice. Thank you for leaving the music it minimal and far behind in it's dynamic level so as not to upstage the words read.
