――この本のタイトルは、仕事や家事、育児に多忙な日々を過ごしているすべてのみなさんへのメッセージです。
新入社員だから、第一希望の会社に入れたのだから、やっとつかんだチャンスだから、
高く評価されているから、今が頑張りどころだから、途中で投げ出すべきじゃないから、
そして、家族のためだから、他の人はもっと頑張っているから……
多くの人がさまざまな理由で、忙しすぎる生活を「避けられないもの」「自分が頑張って乗り切るべきもの」として受け入れてしまっています。
でも、本当にそうなのでしょうか?
この多忙な生活を脱する方法は、どこにも存在しないのでしょうか?
私はあまりに多くの人がそんな生活を当たり前のように受け入れ、本当にやりたいことを後回しにし、
時には体や心を壊すまで頑張ってしまう現状を、とても普通のこととしては受け入れられません。

2016年、厚生労働省は初めて「過労死等防止対策白書」を作成しました。
現状を把握し対策を考えるのはいいことですが、問題はそれほど深刻化しているのです。
同白書によると、仕事を理由のひとつとする自殺は年間2000人以上、業務による心理的負荷を原因とする精神障害は、
労災請求件数だけでも1500件と15 年前の7倍です。
当然、労災など請求できず、仕事を原因とするうつ病で苦しむ人の数は、これより桁違いに多いはずです。
最近は政府も「働き方改革」と称して長時間労働を是正しようと動き出していますが、
「働く時間を短くしましょう」「はい。そうしましょう」と言って問題が解決できるほどコトは簡単ではありません。
今回の本では、ふたつの異なる視点からこの問題にアプローチしました。
個々人が直面する超多忙な生活からの脱出方法について考える視点と、今の社会で急速に進みつつある変化の本質に焦点を当てた視点です。
