После гибели злой волшебницы Гингемы её помощник, бывший столяр Урфин Джюс объявляет себя наследником её колдовского искусства. Однажды буря заносит на его огород семена странного растения, отличающегося невероятной жизненной силой: при попытках его вырубить оно только быстрее разрастается. Джюс останавливает нашествие сорняка, высушив измельчённые растения на противнях и сделав из них порошок.
