Меня довольно часто спрашивают: где можно посмотреть картины Веры Щегловой? Я не знаю, что ответить, боюсь огорчить читателей, обозначив ответом бесплотность героини моего романа. Я скрываю, что даже знаменитую джазовую композицию, давшую имя названию книги, прослушала только недавно и удивилась тому незначительному впечатлению, которое она на меня произвела. Если вдуматься, то и моего родного города, который так пронзительно реален в посвященном ему романе, больше нет на свете; есть другой, который не имеет ко мне никакого отношения. Так что же реально, черт побери? Неужели только солнечный свет, который затоплял его улицы, наши детство и юность, нашу любовь; всю нашу жизнь...
