Двадцать шестой век. После Великой Двухсотлетней Войны на Земле возникло Единое Государство. Люди в нем не имеют имен и фамилий, они различают друг друга лишь по номерам. Все носят одинаковую униформу и едят искусственную пищу. Живут в прозрачных, как будто сотканных и воздуха домах и лишь в заранее согласованный "сексуальный час" имеют право опустить шторы, чтобы остаться наедине с объектом своего вожделения. После завтрака и исполнения Гимна Единого Государства, шеренгами по четыре все дружно направляются на работу. Во главе Единого Государства стоит Благодетель, которого ежегодно переизбирают всем населением. Главная идея правительства состоит в том, что люди могут быть счастливы только в том случае, если их лишат свободы, что с успехом воплощено в жизнь обитателей Государства. Но оказывается, даже в таком идеально устроенном мире, человек продолжает оставаться человеком и такие понятия, как: душа, любовь и вера не может заменить ни один даже самый строго выверенный тоталитарный режим.

Russian version of 1984
I have no idea how I missed this book so long, but finally read it and it was great. Also narrators voice is nice.
