Возвращение низвергнутого - пятая книга цикла Изгой. В начале повествования молодой барон Корис Ван Исер и его люди наказаны за убийство ссылкой в Дикие Земли. Это равносильно смертному приговору: уцелеть в кишащих нежитью лесах практически невозможно. Но Корис, в котором, как выясняется, заключены с помощью магии души трёх разных людей, вдохновляет своих подчинённых на подвиг: возведя среди голых скал неприступную крепость, они отбивают нападения монстров и прочих врагов. Сам же барон ценой героических усилий уничтожает гробницу Тариса Некроманта, главного виновника всех зловещих событий, включая нападения шурдов и нежити на лесные поселения. Однако цена, которую заплатил Корис, высока. Отныне он - ледяной монстр, из шеи которого растут убийственные щупальца. Адские боли ему причиняет тепло и нахождение вблизи церкви.
