Historia
From award-winning poet Saeed Jones, How We Fight for Our Lives is a stunning coming-of-age memoir written at the crossroads of sex, race, and power. Blending poetry and prose, Jones has developed a style that is equal parts sensual, beautiful, and powerful - a voice that’s by turns a river, a blues, and a nightscape set ablaze. How We Fight for Our Lives is a one-of-a-kind memoir and an audiobook that cements Saeed Jones as an essential writer for our time.

This memoir was amazing from the language and the storytelling as a whole. The storytelling of his life was raw and real I felt a connection as a black queer who is also from Texas. Amazing Saeed!!!!! Thanks for sharing your story in an authentic way, I know it wasn’t easy but you healed parts of my soul telling your story.

Historia
Authors June Hayward and Athena Liu were supposed to be twin rising stars: same year at Yale, same debut year in publishing. But Athena’s a cross-genre literary darling, and June didn’t even get a paperback release. Nobody wants stories about basic white girls, June thinks. So when June witnesses Athena’s death in a freak accident, she acts on impulse: she steals Athena’s just-finished masterpiece, an experimental novel about the unsung contributions of Chinese laborers to the British and French war efforts during World War I.

It’s okay- a slow read nothing every pulled up back in but overall good. I did like the ending of the book. I felt as though some parts dragged. Lack of character development.

Historia
Black girls and women disappear every day, but not without a trace. Join actress and activist Erika Alexander in a neo-noir, true crime drama as she searches for Tamika Huston, a 24-year-old Black woman from Spartanburg, SC who went missing in 2004. Her case became a rallying cry for other missing Black women in America and led to a growing demand to expose a system that ignores missing girls and women of color.

Historia
In my book, you will meet a little girl named Viola who ran from her past until she made a life-changing decision to stop running forever. This is my story, from a crumbling apartment in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to the stage in New York City, and beyond. This is the path I took to finding my purpose but also my voice in a world that didn’t always see me.

Amazing
Revisado: 02-27-23
This book was filled with authenticity. The story was difficult to get through in the beginning because I related so much and wasn’t ready to face her truth mirroring my truth. Also so many life gems! This book should be a required reading for all actors and people in film and theatre. Thanks Viola for sharing your story so I know I am not alone.
