The first two books were great, I really enjoyed them.
This book, however, was a let down. All the jumping around and accusing everyone makes the women seem so fickle- unlike the previous stories where they seemed more in tuned with the mystery.

To easy to know what’s going to happen 1-2 chapters before it happens. Too much sex just to gets his own rocks off for no reason. Boring.

Disappointing

The first two books of the trilogy were good, this one went downhill fast about mid-point. I won’t put why just that the logic was poor & the attempt to shock just ruined the whole thing

The last couple of minutes or more was just a repeat of the couple of minutes before, story was not completed, characters were so-so. I too am glad I didn’t have to pay for this

So much potential wasted

This could have been a great story but the author just couldn’t let it be. So much unnecessary garbage was thrown in that did nothing for the story. Seemed the author wanted to make a certain wood count so instead of a brilliant shorter story she added fluff for the sake of a word count.
The ending just plain sucked with even more unnecessary stuff.

Suspend belief & pretend it makes sense

Their lack of sex really had nothing to do with the story & showed a complete lack of professionalism, awareness of what was going on around them & just bored the hell out of me.
As for parts of the story - they were just filler, outrageous red herrings, & show the ignorance of the author. Had it been written 100 years ago some of the ignorance may have made sense, but not something that supposedly took place recently.
Tony Hillerman has nothing to worry about.

Word salad

Not sure how many different ways an author needs to make the same statement in a 5 min period & then remind you of that statement throughout the book.
Then, why do female characters have to be so dumb? No critical thinking involved, just go wherever she is pointed by the last suspect. Just make up some flimsy idea why someone should be a suspect & go blame them to their face.
The voice actress was good , the story not so much

Good For When Doing Housework or Errands.

Re-listening to books.
3 Things To Remember From This Book.
1) Booker's mother is dead.
2) Lilac is an empath.
3) Hadley has a job when she arrives. She can do it from the island.

You get use to Hadley sounding like a spoiled 12 year old.

Very nice little cozy mystery. Don't expect more than that.

Story veers left & right but so obvious you could sleep through more than half the book (I know I did) & still know better than the characters what is happening. Should have been a short story.
It’s hard to find a book that keeps you awake hanging on every word any more. So disappointing.

Same old tired story line

Let’s buy a haunted house, ghosts don’t exist, something freaky is going on, don’t tell your mom.
Mom investigates, don’t tell your dad, everything is falling apart, let’s just stay while everything crumbles around us, it will be ok.
Everybody dies cause they can’t talk to each other & make the same stupid mistakes every other “haunted house” story does
