I was so glad when i found this series. Fell in love with the premise and the charecters. by book 3 the story became kind of drawn out and the change in athe narrater was a bad move imo but i powered through it for my love of the overall story. By book 4 they changed yet again the narrater, whos voiceing of the beloved charecters was too strange for me to recognize the charecters i fell in love with. Add to that the misprenouncing of the names as well as the changes in core charecter traits built by 3 books and it was enough for me to DNF this book. I love what the author did origionally. IDK what happened to make the story shift so, or the changing of narraters in the final 2 books but its unfortunate.

Once, Tomas Piety looked after his men, body and soul, as best he could. Then those who ran his country decided his dark talents would better serve in the corridors of power. Meanwhile in the capital city of Dannsburg, Dieter Vogel is beginning to wonder if the horror he has unleashed in the Martyr's Disciples might be getting out of control.

awesome end to a grimdark tale
Revisado: 05-05-23
What do you do when the anti hero becomes a hero because theres noone else who understands whats at stake? You want to hate him, you want to fear him but you understand the path of blood was the only way. i loved the way this ended and i was so conflicted about what i felt. it didnt feel like i was bullied into feeling this was the way alot of movies and books try to. Hats off to Richard Nell for making an overly critical grimdark fan like myself feel all the feels and be satisfied with the ending. Loved it!

Loved it, the narrater finally found his stride. with the only thing being how he pronounced one of the charecters name being different from the 1st book, the other charecters finally began to feel different from one another. Everything else is great. definately reccomend for anyone likes grimdark.

good start, but it takes a while
Revisado: 05-05-23
Ill Keep this short, if you like grimdark, youll love this, biggest con i can think of is the narration is not the best but gets better as the seiries goes. The story is confusing but all comes together. If you can stick it out the second book is better and the third will have you gripped. i was sad durring the entire third book because i knew it was finally coming to an end. Great series!

Historia
The fourth book in the NYT best-selling Expanse series, Cibola Burn sees the crew of the Rocinante on a new frontier, as the rush to colonize the new planets threatens to outrun law and order and give way to war and chaos. Enter a new frontier. "An empty apartment, a missing family, that's creepy. But this is like finding a military base with no one on it. Fighters and tanks idling on the runway with no drivers. This is bad juju. Something wrong happened here. What you should do is tell everyone to leave".

Revisado: 08-03-21
If you were expecting everything you loved from this series to make a comeback, forget it. Every lesson Holden learned about pre judging ppl who are morally Grey is forgotten and he isn't punished for it. The crew of the Roci are relegated to either henchmen/ plot devices or damsels in distress. There are new characters who read like YA teens, and a plot that doesn't follow thru to the end.
It ends anti climactic. I was very disappointed in this book. As what it tries to use as Holdens chatecter development, we as the reader know it's just more of his rightious nature and misguided views on mortality. (HOT TAKE) the guy painted as the bad guy did nothing wrong. And the bad guy they want you to empathize with was a mass murderer. But I guess since Holden likes him (for thin reasons btw) he deserves to have his sins and crimes forgiven. Smfh. Skip this one. I'm gonna continue the series but I don't remember a series that made me love it and then hate it with one book like this. Here's to hoping it gets back on track.

Fantastic narration, story and pros. but charecter developement is lacking if that matters to you. It doesnt detract from the overall story its great, just be aware there are some elements that borderline mommy porn from those daytime reads of old. Great story worth reading and finishing.

this is a great story but...
Revisado: 02-28-21
Make no mistake this story is great, but be aware. If genres mean much to you this will blur the lines. It has a great overall story that keeps getting interupted by over the top love scenes and descriptions of basically mommy porn style sexually charged episodes. Hats off to the narrator who does a fantastic job, but i frequently skipped the sex scenes they seemed unneccesary. i found myself just wanting to get to the point of the story withought having to listen to every man in this story having to deal with their "woman". i love love like the next guy, but mommy porn is just not prefered genre. a good read if you dont mind skipping some parragraphs. btw the same can be said of the 1st book if for some reason you are reading this before finishing the 1st.
