Great story for book lovers!
Revisado: 01-20-24
This book really captured what it means to be a book lover. It cleverly showed through the lives of the characters how books can open your mind and transform your thinking. As someone who read more than half of those books on the reading list I really enjoyed the discussion around the books. This book really examined how powerful it can be to share your thoughts with another about a book that you read and loved.

Sam and Sadie—two college friends, often in love, but never lovers—become creative partners in a dazzling and intricately imagined world of video game design, where success brings them fame, joy, tragedy, duplicity, and, ultimately, a kind of immortality. It is a love story, but not one you have heard before.

I’ve never read a book about gaming before and I thought it was really interesting
Revisado: 02-21-23
This wouldn’t be a book I would normally gravitate to, but I was really attracted to the different characters and their friendships over the years. I thought it was a really touching beautiful story about friendship, and I loved all of the insight into the gaming world.

Confusing story and ending did not answer half of the questions that have been posed throughout the whole story
Revisado: 05-25-22
I gave this book a shot because I read another book of Nina Manning and really liked it. This book was extremely confusing. The main character seems to have been severely emotionally and physically abused in her marriage. Yet when they tied everything up at the end, her husband ended up being the superintendent of police and they actually seem to have a great family life and a great relationship. I am extremely confused as to how that changed or why the end of the book did not address all of the abuse that she had suffered at his hand. Also there’s this storyline involving an Instagram influencer that she is obsessed with that happens to be involved in a drug ring at the end. Like the story line of her abusive husband, the Instagram influencer thread seemed to be tied up hastily. It made me wonder what was the point of having Instagram posts in the story at all and why she seemed so obsessed with the influencer. She had started a relationship with one of the teachers at college and that was never even addressed after her cop ex husband came into the picture in the last 15 pages. I listen to no less than five books a month a lot of them are thrillers and I really have never read a book before where the ending seemed to be for an entirely different story. Do yourself a favor and skip this one.

Narrator’s accent is very offputting but a good story
Revisado: 12-02-21
I thought that the story was very well done. It really was a wonderful depiction of Italy and Tuscany. I felt the plot was very interesting with the wine making. however I felt like the narrator accents were very strange almost distracting at times.
Other than that I really found the story absolutely delightful

A really great read
Revisado: 12-08-20
I just loved this book. Characters and plot was complex and interesting but also had a wonderfully human feel not captured in many psychological thrillers. I really really like this book.

Loved it!
Revisado: 02-27-20
I really loved this book. I liked how everyone story was woven around each other’s carefully and deliberately. The characters were well developed and the emotions they felt were conveyed beautifully. I’ve read a lot of WW2 books but this one really touched my heart in a unique way especially the Max and Aurelli storyline!

Maggie’s part dull and too drawn out
Revisado: 10-22-19
Assumed this would be full of action since it took place during WW2 but found Maggie’s part to be really drawn out. I also had to listen again to a bunch of parts a few times before I understood. So either it wasn’t exciting enough to prevent my mind from wandering or the narrative itself was hard to follow. I’ve read a lot of books about WW2 and found this one to be the hardest to get through

Heart wrenching and too heavy to be entertaining
Revisado: 08-17-19
This focused way to much on all of the misery of the situation with little character development in the beginning and too little redemption at the end. Where was the entertainment value? Really long and the story was way too drawn out!

Great storytelling
Revisado: 07-13-18
This book and performance made the story come alive with perfect clarity. It really captured the essence of a regular couple going through extraordinary circumstances and coming out on the other side. It didn’t paint a pretty picture but it truly captured how real people may have acted in the same circumstance. I found it riveting!
