Good story, bad verbal interpretation.

The narrator focuses so hard on doing the accent that he neglects the intonation that accent uses, so every sentence sounds exactly the same.

Also, he's DEFINITIVELY doing a bad Irish accent. The people are Scottish. The story is set in Scotland. It's just very....distracting. The reason it's so much of a problem is BECAUSE of the emphasis the narrator puts on the accent. Intonation and differentiation between voices is sacrificed for attention to the accent, but the accent is wrong.

great story, HORRIBLE reader

I'm sorry, I love this book, but I have heard this narrator on a number of different book series on audible, and he is legitimately one of THE worst voice actors I have ever heard. His cadence is off, his tone is unnatural, and his pace is so slow that I have to set the speed to 1.25x in order to even be able to listen to it at all. The only reason I even gave him one star is because during non-sex scenes with zero dialogue, when I have the speed set to 1.25x, he doesn't sound horrible. But it honestly sounds like this narrator had never heard people speak to each other. At all. Ever.
