Historia
Daphne always loved the way her fiancé Peter told their story. How they met (on a blustery day), fell in love (over an errant hat), and moved back to his lakeside hometown to begin their life together. He really was good at telling it…right up until the moment he realized he was actually in love with his childhood best friend Petra. Which is how Daphne begins her new story.

Historia
Lit follows Mary Karr's descent into the inferno of alcoholism and madness - and her astonishing resurrection. Karr's longing for a solid family seems secure when her marriage to a handsome, Shakespeare-quoting poet produces a son they adore. But she can't outrun her apocalyptic past. She drinks herself into the same numbness that nearly devoured her charismatic but troubled mother, reaching the brink of suicide. A hair-raising stint in "The Mental Marriott" awakens her to the possibility of joy, and leads her to an unlikely faith.

I felt like I was watching a movie, not listening
Revisado: 01-05-25
I am reviewing both The Liars’ Club and Lit. Reading them both is a requirement. Her writing is truly captivating and so smart, a true storyteller. It draws me in and makes me feel every emotion she intended. The way she expresses her thoughts at times left me in tears and wanting more. Did she ever hear from the people in her hometown after the books were published? One last thing. Warning to all readers – After listening to Mary Karr’s writing, don’t be surprised if the next few books you read/listen to seem poorly written. Her writing is scary smart.

If you are an Elvis fan - it's a must read
Revisado: 01-05-25
This is a very frank account of her life with Elvis and her former husband Bruce Jenner (now Caitlyn Jenner). It feels like an honest view into her experience with 3 very famous men. I love how she came into her own career, too bad she didn't have Elvis sing one of her songs.

Historia
To the wider world, Al Pacino exploded onto the scene like a supernova. He landed his first leading role, in The Panic in Needle Park, in 1971, and by 1975, he had starred in four movies—The Godfather and The Godfather Part II, Serpico, and Dog Day Afternoon—that were not just successes but landmarks in the history of film. Those performances became legendary and changed his life forever. Not since Marlon Brando and James Dean in the late 1950s had an actor landed in the culture with such force.

I honestly was expecting more
Revisado: 01-05-25
I found the book a little boring at times. I love this actor's work, maybe that's why I expected more. It's worth a credit, but you won't be on the edge of your seat waiting for the next chapter. He is one of the greatest actors of our generation.

Historia
After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer. Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. It’s been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy can’t remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life.

Historia
The Liars’ Club took the world by storm and raised the art of the memoir to an entirely new level, bringing about a dramatic revival of the form. Karr’s comic childhood in an east Texas oil town brings us characters as darkly hilarious as any of J. D. Salinger’s—a hard-drinking daddy, a sister who can talk down the sheriff at age twelve, and an oft-married mother whose accumulated secrets threaten to destroy them all.

Heartbreaking
Revisado: 10-28-23
I wish her a happy life ahead. A tragic story. I’m not sure if I could ever forgive my parents. I actually looked up her mother’s interview and was horrified that a mother would share those things with the world, greed at its finest. It’s a shame that her father’s not doing jail time for abusing her.
