Nothing new here
Revisado: 01-06-25
Too repetitive and she uses the term "let them "over and over again until I found it irritating. There's nothing new in this book. It's just common sense and I've heard it all before. I also found it a bit manipulative that she called herself my friend. The "let them theory "is overblown, oversimplified, and quite frankly branding at its most, obvious. Also, she gets a little cringey with some of her personal stories which go on and on and on and concern mostly people in her age group and demographic. On a personal level, I can't relate to her stories because I'm of a different generation. I don't understand why everyone is so enthused about this book. It's very commercial and
uninspiring, at least for me.

The music was terrible

Music was so distracting and awful that sometimes I couldn’t even hear what he was saying or concentrate on the message.

Where can you find joy? Gain strength? How should we face our fears? Deal with the death of a loved one? And what about those reoccurring depressing thoughts? While traditional schooling doesn’t address such questions, it’s exactly what ancient schools of philosophy were all about: They taught you how to live. Even though these schools don’t exist anymore, you and I and most people are in as much need of a philosophy that guides us through life as we ever were. This compelling, highly actionable guide shows you how to deal more effectively with whatever life throws at you.

I found this book very inspiring, and I keep it on hand. The narration was a little iffy, but the rest of the book was great.

Too biblical
Revisado: 07-28-23
I have no quarrel with anyone’s religion, but this author uses Bible quotes like a sledgehammer. Unfortunately it’s difficult to sift through all of the Christian precepts (for example, the father should be the head of the family, which I found antiquated and out of touch with the real world). There were a few good perspectives and thoughts but they were drowned out by all the Bible quotes and Christian beliefs. I would like a refund, but I don’t know how to go about getting one. The author was well-meaning, but I couldn’t get past all the religious quotes and Commandments.

Nothing New Here
Revisado: 07-19-23
The narration was cold and mechanical, and her voice was irritating. Information was chock-full of terminology that most of us are now familiar with and the coping suggestions were run-of-the-mill.

Historia
Brandi Carlile was born into a musically gifted, impoverished family on the outskirts of Seattle and grew up in a constant state of change, moving from house to house, trailer to trailer, 14 times in as many years. Though imperfect in every way, her dysfunctional childhood was as beautiful as it was strange, and as nurturing as it was difficult. At the age of five, Brandi contracted bacterial meningitis, which almost took her life, leaving an indelible mark on her formative years and altering her journey into young adulthood.

Revisado: 02-22-23
Well, Brandi Carlile is a good writer, a good songwriter, and an interesting person, I lost interest in this book after the third chapter. The music was distracting, and I did not like it, even though I am a fan of her music. Some of the stories about her childhood and beyond were a little boring,

Love this book!
Revisado: 05-10-21
This book helped me more than any other book on the subject of estrangement and alienation. The author doesn't share most of her personal story, but, one thing I know is that while everyone's story differs, the emotional wreckage of estrangement is universal. I liked the inspiring quotes throughout which was a nice touch. The author has a soothing, compassionate voice and the writing is very nice and refreshing in its honesty and brevity, which packed a punch. I keep it on hand for those weak moments when I need a helping hand.
